MSD variable timing control - 10/02/09 01:43 PM

Anyone having any problems with The MSD timing control knob? Mine seems to never hold the correct timing, I try to set base timing in the middle of the sweep range so I have equal + and - its like 7* each way and it never adjusts the proper sweep degrees with a timing light, once you move the knob you never know exactly what your timing is, I tried it several times in the shop and could not get it right so I just disconnected it, it runs thru a 6al box. are these just junk or is the one I have faulty?

Hey guys, I am gona throw this one up one more time hoping the Sunday crew will offer up some feed back, Running a small block in a front leaf spring mud rig with 38.5 front tires puts me on a milk crate with a long handle 1/2 huntin the dist hold down in the dark, even @ 6ft2 with a long reach its a PIA, if I can work out this timing control from the drivers seat it will really make my life a lot easier, air startin to cool down here so its time to get dirty again

I, and several friends have run them for years with no repeatability problems. If you are using a dial-back timing light, that could be the problem, they don't like MSD's.

from my experience with electronic timing lights i'll never use anything but a plain jane timing light these days.

Wow, who knew, Blew off the dust off my old craftsman timing light and gave it a try, Well to start my 33* locked timing was rock steady @ 30* and the timing control worked close enough to trust it, Just when ya think you are starting to figure stuff out Sometimes its just the simple stupid stuff that messes with your head, thankx for the help
