New job

New job - 10/02/09 12:40 AM

A while ago I mentioned that I was given 90 days notice at work. Well today I managed to secure a new job. Just in the nick of time, my last day would have been the 14th of oct. I'll be starting the new job on the 12th or the 19th. I stayed with Lockheed Martin but will be working for a different division. I will be able to work "virtually" and not have to move to do the new job. Life is good I'll have a bunch of new things to learn and am very happy to be given a new position with the company at my current salary and still retain all my years of service and the perks that go along with it.

To keep this race related, the race car will likely come off the market and I'll get it back out next year.

Sorry to hear about your Job Jim. Being in the DOD industry is just as bad. The division I moved to does all of the corporations intranet webpages for all the divisions. It's a bunch of new stuff for me to learn but supporting all the divisions helps to flatten their work load. Not the same situation where one site loses a bunch of key contracts and needs to thin the staff accordingly. The site I worked as was building the presidential helicopter and also did lot's of work for the USPS. The plug was pulled on the copter and USPS is having financial woes so that left Owego with too many people for the workload.

Re: New job - 10/02/09 03:32 AM

Yes the USPS spending freeze hurt me too. Besides my traditional Robotic systems I also did our RCS systems for the USPS. I was going to call you when I was at NJI but figured you were farther north in NY.

if any of you lads are looking for work in the HVAC industry & want a change in lifestyle come down under. we can't fill job posts as there's no qualified techs avail to do the job. it might be like a step back in time for some of you but it's clean, green & nuclear free down here & HVAC staff are on a top earner. sorry to hijack your post.

Re: New job - 10/02/09 09:06 PM

Glad to hear some good news for a change.

265,000 jobs lost in September.

There are currently 6X as many unemployed than there are "help wanted".

Yes, I have plenty of time to watch the news.
