Too Old, Too Stubborn or too Stupid ? - 10/01/09 11:50 PM

To realize a 49+ year old man with an artificial shoulder should not unload 55 gallon drums of Alkyhol by himself!!

I pulled it off this time, unloaded two drums, heck I seen my buddy and his two sons unload one? So I figured for me it should be a piece of cake!! LOL

And here I was hoping for a poll where I could select all of the above

Get some help next time. Those drums can be dangerous if they get away from you.

I use to unload fuel drums all the time at home, I
built a fixture that I could back my truck under
and lift them .... much easier on the back(and safer)

I lay 55 gal drums on their side. The I roll them off the gate onto an old tire. An old rear tire from the race car works well if I have one around. Be careful, they are heavier than they look.

I thought I was the only one to do that sometimes I don't even use a tire just the lawn every time I buy a new drum of fuel the wife leaves the house

Has anyone seen a device that clamps to the lip so that the barrol can be lifted?

The company that delivers the oil drums here has a hand truk that clamps the top and slides under the bottom. Is that what your talking about?

use a tire or a 2x10 for a ramp and walk it down...

My fuel guy, VP delivers the drums with a liftgate truck and them puts them wherever you want. Oh yeah NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE for delivery

There are really neat hand trucks built just for that, but they don't get it out of the back of a pickup!
I'd suggest one of the wheeled things posted above, and if you can't get any help, a chain and an engine hoist to get it out of the truck.
Oh, and the correct answer is D: All Of The Above.
Take care of yourself, Ted.

Hey this may be worth the $75 investment, should I add to cheap to the list?

Isn't being cheap why you started this post in the first place
