440 weight - 09/27/09 03:46 PM

Anyone know what the weight of a early (66-67) 440 block weighs compared to a late (75) 440? I weight my car this weekend. Last time it weighted 3040 w/out me. Since then I changed to alum heads, alum water pump, stock pan to a 8 qt pan. Also went from a 66 to a 75 block but internals of the motors are the same. Now the car weights 3055 w/out me? Thinking the block has to be alot heavier, and was wondering what the acutal weight difference is. thanks.

I don't think any of the passenger car blocks where much(5 to 10 lbs heavier ) heavier than the rest of the years. Mopar did make the 440-3 motor home blocks that had extra reinforcing ribs on the sides and extra cooling passages in the block and heads to cool the exhaust valves but I don't remember them being noticably heaveir than the passenger car blocks when moving them around and loading them into and out of the truck to go to the machine shops

I've weighed lots of blocks and never seen any pattern by the year. The heaviest block I ever weighed (also had the thickest cylinder walls) was a 1978 440 motor from a passenger car. So much for the "thin wall" theory!
