360 magnum or LA? - 09/25/09 02:31 AM

trying to decide if i want to build a magnum or an LA. i've got both. i don't want to buy any heads, just use existing iron heads, stock stroke. my son got the best of his old 360la in his 72 dart street car, now it's time to do something?????

The magnum heads have way more potential than la heads from what i've read, plus they're close chambered.
Now as far as blocks, the LA block is thicker in the main webs than a magnum...
But for stock stroke the magnum block would be fine, and it's already set up for a roller cam...

I would probably use the magnum motor. You can run a roller cam, the heads are probably better than whatever is on the LA 360. And all the parts are only maybe a decade or 2 old compared to the LA 360 that's probably pushing 40+ .

Depends on what you want to do. All magnum heads are cracked, most don't leak water,so for a mild build they may be fine. Using a hyd roller limits the rpms before crap happens. What do you want from this build?

How much power are you wanting from the 360?

Why not put Magnum heads on an "LA" block.

I did that in my race car because you have more camshaft choices.

For the longest time people thought it WAS a 300 horse crate motor....

So far so good.
