Prepping rod and main bearings?? - 09/22/09 05:23 PM

Does anyone prep either their rod or main bearings by either scotch briting and removing the silver finish or polishing it.

It know it might be a silly question but the past 2 hi perf motors ive done i removed the coating and had no problems.

Any ideas??

Plastic gauge and pre lube is all my bearings see The dull gray finish is what I use for inspection after the engine has run some, if its all still there you know your close, if you show ware you still have time to look into it and check your specs

It use to be the standard procedure to scotch brite the new bearing in solvent and blow dry them, not today The bearing manufactures put a lot of time and money in testing the flash coatings used on todays bearings, don't waste that. I clean them with a soft cloth and laquer thinner and then coat them, once there installed into the rods or block, with the oil the motor will be ran with No magic mix of assembly lube and other potents The motor runs on oil and that is what I use
