Hell, I run my Street Hemi to 7500 before pulling the next gear, and it's basically a street car.

Re: Hemi Racers RPM - 09/22/09 02:51 AM

but that's kinda a vague question isn't it Fred? the rpm depends on a lot of variables. iirc the cuda turning 10k has a prostock style engine in it which is a far cry from a 426 and using SS or blown alky cars as an example doesn't compare to what most guys build either. twisting an engine faster isn't always a good idea especially if you're past the peak HP.

Re: Hemi Racers RPM - 09/22/09 02:39 PM

Launch off idle at 1500, check track position (you know up against the wall, on the centerline, well I'm preaching to the choir here) Shift when wheels touch, then shift again when that funny little yellow light comes on (that second shift is for the Mopar only crowd), cross the line at 7700. Was I suppose to look at the tach before the finish line?

Re: Hemi Racers RPM - 09/24/09 12:02 AM

No that was a picture perfect run,I was AJ Casini high at the 60'.My last run against the Ford Fairlane I went toward the grass back peddeled straightened out, pulled second and found myself looking straight down track through the side window,I peddled pulled high gear straghtened it out, stabbed it to the floor ran a low 10 at 139 but the Ford still had me at the stripe. It was the same lane that killed Chris,Ronny McCelland and about 5 others before they stopped the race to tune up the starting line.Of course it was nothing like Chaz on Sat.night wheelstand the 65 into Ronny McC's lane and the two running the full 1/4 in the same lane.

Re: Hemi Racers RPM - 09/24/09 02:48 AM

Old SS motor, launch was around 6000-6500 with a stick and shifted at 9000-9200,went into the traps at 9800+. New mild street motor in car based on 68 SS/Factory stock motor out of A body, Launch as hard as street tires car handle, shift at 7800. Both motors built on the stock specs of the crank,no stroked crank.

Fred. Car has 538s and back in the Seventies the transmission had Doug Nash internals in a Chrysler Box,can not remember the first gear ratio, but it had a lot higher number than a stock Chrysler Box.
