* Keeping clearances within spec minimizes "leakage" between bearings and side clearances.
* If the oil pan is deeper than stock, one can sometimes get away with no windage tray. A tray can trap some oil and isn't a necessity if the oil level is far enough below the rotating assembly.
* I like crank scrapers and use one without a tray in my 360.

* Grind off any flashing and smooth out any surface imperfections on the block & heads where oil flows or collects.
* There are ways to help direct oil from the top end back to the pan without as much draining onto the rotating assembly. But I'm not quite sure of the details.
The idea of foam scares me. I see visions of it coming apart.
