What to do/how to prepare and deal with a wheelie? - 09/08/09 02:24 AM

I hope this doesn't seem like a dumb question, but we are hoping to make a few passes in my buddy's new a-body drag car. Playing on the road behind the shop, it is pulling the wheels about a foot in the air. What do you do if it wheelies hard at the track? I already know to try and land it as easy as possible and don't get right out of the throttle. The steering wheel is marked straight up so I know where my wheels are. What helpful hints can you offer for the driver as well as for the suspension? THX

You need two or three pairs of new under pants and some cold beer.If the car is pulling the tires on the street,to hell with the race track. You can pay for that car in about three races on the street.

If you have adjustable front shocks just tighten them and gradually loosen them up as you get used to it. Tie the front end down, take away the suspension travel .

Kiss your butt goodbye before you get into the car, because its hard to do in a 5 point harness with the wheels in the air.

What type of rear suspension? Tighten the front shocks
and put limiters on the fronts

If you have the power and weight transfer to pull the fronts off the ground on the street, you definitely need to consider wheelie bars. Give us some specs, trans type, stall, motor size, rear gears, tires, hp and torque, suspension type. This will help with recommendations.

The car has a 4 link rear and 4.30 gears. It has a coil over alterkation front end. Muscle motors did the engine. It dynoed somewhere around 740 hp but I don't have all the specs. I should restate the playing on the street is actually in an industrial park behind the shop. It was going hard right at first, but with some adjustments, it seems to be launching pretty straight now. It has a transbrake, but we haven't used it yet.
