On Sat night I moved into 1st place in the points series. Maryland International Raceway (MIR), Modified ET class (footbrake - no electronics).

Going into the night, I was in 3rd place with 420 points. The 1st and 2nd place racers were tied with 422 points. We get 10 points for each round win, and 1 extra point for overall win of the night (11 points final round). So they each won 2 races this year, and I haven't won any, but I did have just as many round wins.

In first round, both the 1st and 2nd place racers lost! So they get 20 points for making the show.
In the second round, I was paired againts the 4th place racer who was behind me by 10 points. This is how it went:

146.3 139.0 mph (I braked slightly ~1.5 mph)

Right lane (Me) crossed first by 0.0114. Looks like I closed it up nicely.

Unfortunately, I red lighted in the 3rd round with a -0.006
But I am happy to be in first place by 18-20 points from the next 3 racers and I think 40 from the 5th place racer. My unofficial talley:

1st: 460
2nd: 442
3rd: 442
4th: 440
5th: 420
6th: 411
7th: 400

Thanks. Besides the other benefits, the points winner gets paid $1500. see attachement.

We have 4 races left, both double header weekends (Sat and Sun races). Sep 19-20 and Oct 10-11

does the winner get free entry next year?

Yes the winner gets free entry next year, and a free reserved pit spot.

I did have a scare after the last time trial, before 1st round. My water temperature was normal at the end of the run, about 185 degrees. But on the return road, after I turned on the cooling fan, the temperature kept rising, unusual as I didn't lean out the mixture yet (which I do to put heat in the motor). When I picked up my timeslip the motor was up to 200 and I knew I had a problem. I decided to high tail it back to the pits and I made it there at about 220 on the gauge, but water wasn't circulating.

Turned out the fuse on the electric water pump (Mezerie) was blown. I put another 10 amp in and it was fine. But in the staging lanes for 1st round, I noticed the water temperature didn't fall with the engine off and the water pump and fan ON! I reached over and pulled the fuse and put a 20 amp in and it was working again as I moved to the top of the staging lanes. I avoided a close one there as a broke run (aborted) would have killed me in the points.

Jim, a hearty congratulations on your success! It is a very high achievement when a guy puts together a winning ride AND a winning season. It takes a lot of hard work, and it has to be SMART work! Time to finish the job and put the rest of em on the bus home!

Go get em Jim!! Running the ROC at the ROCK would be awsome! I know you have a tuff croud at MIR plus the Raiders Challenge so GIVE THEM HELL! I'm rooting for you!
