I think I got my hook back. - 09/05/09 01:58 AM

Took the car out to the local track tonight (pacemaker's) and give it a few test try's and 2 out of 4 passes were good for a 1.34 wheel's up 60ft launches, first one was a easy footbrake pass and went 1.37 60ft and the other one was total driver inability to drive a car , now I got to find out why the car want's to skate around going down the track to the tune of lifting before it got out of hand , I think I need to go back thru the front end alignment cause somthing don't feel right at speed, got one more shot at it before Norwalk.

Thank's for the offer, but no time, I have been using a clip on caster/camber gage that vernmotor has, I have the caster set at 2* positive (top ball joint behind the bottom)and 0 camber, toe in set a 0 at ride height don't know at 1" up, I am putting it back in the garage and re check everything this next week.

If you have the toe at zero static you are probably getting some toe out down track which could make it unstable at speeds. I would set it at 1/16th toe in on each side.

Bill... the worst thing you can have is toe
out, the car will start to dart back and forth, the
more its toed out the worse it gets... can you get any
more caster

Thank's guy's, Ron the air pressure is at 14# (29.5X11.5X15 Phoenix)and the shock's are set at 3 click's up from dead soft, I will work with that next Fri. nite.

Bill@ Mike, I am going to recheck and set it up different and raise the front up then set the toe, I want to see what it does when raise and lower the front as to what the toe does, Mike I believe there is more caster to be found, I also plan on reducing the amount of pinion angle from 5* bact to 2-3 I am getting a little rumbling from what sound's like the U joint complaining.

Get yourself four vinyl tiles to use as toe plates so your tires move easy when you lift the car to check the toe. Use a little wheel bearing grease between them. Store them in a gallon zip lock bag after for next time.

What turned out to be the problem? I think I remember you possibly had coil bind? As for tire pressure, I run that same tire, and I have no problems with 9lbs. I do have 7* caster, and 1/16" toe in at +1" ride height. Car drives like it's on rails. Hey, that's a great idea using vinyl tiles as turntables.

Vernmotor showed me the trick with the tile's and it work's like a champ,It wasn't coil bind but the shock's were bottoming out because the spring's were to light and worn out, anything less than 11# on my car and the tires just wad up,,,,bad, I am going to dial in some more caster and redo the toe, this time with the front up an inch.

How many screws do you have in back tires? 14 seems like alot. I run 10 - 10.5 in my Hoosier 12 x 32. Where were you at tonight? There were not very many Mopars in S/Pro at Pacemakers tonight. The track was great tonight my car was 1.41 about 6 times today.

Had a family commitment, owed my 82 year old mother a dinner out at a decent restaraunt, Talked to the design engineer for Mickey Thompson and he looked at the car in a video and told me to up the pressure because the side wall's were crushing down too much, I have only raised it 1# so far, He also told me that a smaller slick need's more pressure that a larger tire like a 14X32,,,I will be at the track next weekend on fri and sat.
