Milodon oil pan

Milodon oil pan - 08/18/09 12:31 PM

Anyone ever run a 31151 pan? I'm currently running a deep sump single line pan but since I've changed the steering over to a rack I now have room to put this pan on and go with the dual line swinging pickup.

Allen, buy a Charlies oil pan with a deeper sump for your car I have used the dragster pans in acrs with cut up K members for them Most dragsters and funny cars shut the motors off in the lights and don't use the motors for deacceleration braking,(parachute ) all the oil is forced to the front of the pan on deacceleration braking giving the swinging pickup very little oil to provide to the motor during that time BTW, if your single line is working well why fix it

Kevo makes an Awesome long style low profile pan IN the USA with the swingarm fittings, windage tray, crank scrapper, baffles, Site window, dip stick whereever you want or none, temp sender bung and dual gates to control the oil when using both peddles.

Yes I run that pan and have been for two years now. I really like it, no need to worry about ever hitting it on anything. It also has trap doors so the oil does NOT move away from the swinging pick up. Most dragsters around here don't shut the motors off either.

100%
Get the Charlie's pan through Mancini Racing, and use the Indy pickup, its much larger than the milodon, and steer clear of the Milodon setup that uses the Leak prone "green" gasket.

my cousin Tony is using the same pan on his tube chassis car and the trap door in it doesnt work properly either.. when he hits the brakes, parachute,etc..the oil pressure drops all the way to 0-5psi..we have tried everything to make it work .. not luck..so i built a very different baffle(bulk-head) in mine..one that keeps the oil from getting away from the pick-up...

The single line is working but I've mashed the current pan flat so darn many times It looks like Heck! The last time I backed it into the shop I nailed the drain plug and had to pull the pan for welding. I want to lower the front of the car more but the current pan is holding me up on that.

Here is a few pic of the Charlies pan from my Dragster/Indy engine. You can see the trap door in front of the swinging pickup. BTW this pan was cheaper than the Milodon

I use the same pan as well

Bob I'm running a milodon single line setup right now but I've removed the "green gasket" and threaded the housing for a remote oil filter. Much cleaner. I've also got a World aluminum block that I can plumb the second line right into the front of the block and will not need the adaptor in-between the block and pump. My only other concern is my engine combo as the instructions say will work up to 3/4 stroke? What does that mean? 4 and 3/4 or what? I've got a 4.15 crank with Grp aluminum rods and I'm affraid it will hit? My current set-up is not hitting anything with milodons stroker windage tray.

That is exactly How I run my Indy max block. I simply used a standard HV Melling Oil pump with the Indy cover which actually made it a single line setup. I then ran the other oil line from near the timing chain cover to the other line/side of the pickup. Worked great. I now have a World Hemi block, and I plan to do the same thing. Only I wont be using the Indy Pump cover, Im going to try the Muscle Motors cover, and the 440 Source swinging pickup. It has a large cross section at the pickup window like the Indy. The Indy pickup is like $140, and the Source one is like $70.

That Charlie's pan looks like a nice piece. I don't think it would fit on my Alterkation since the front is not cut back any. I have not had any oil control problems with my Milodon, having pressure never go down below 50psi after letting off at the traps. But if the Charlie's fits and is cheaper it sounds like a good buy.

Charlie's Oil Pans does make an oil pan to fit the Alterkation, Magnaforce and LRT front ends on A Bodies. I currently am running one with a single line and swinging pick up with no issues on my 73 Duster. It is a 7 qt. pan and is a very nice piece for the money.

what does the charlies pan use for a windage tray

the milodon has a built in windage tray and crank scraper. i believe the milodon is for 4.3/4 stroke. it works fine in my 4.150 stroke

Re: Milodon oil pan - 08/19/09 02:31 AM

Since you're talking oil pans, is there an off the shelf pan for a big block, 4.5 crank, stock A-Body K-frame or is a custom pan needed? Thanks.

Re: Milodon oil pan - 08/19/09 02:55 AM

Standard 8qt Milodon or Moroso pan will clear a 4.5 stroke. Its the internal pickup tube (if utilized) will need some finessing. If using standard Mopar rod journal forget about the internal pickup tube all together. Im not sure a 2.2 rod journal will even have room. Looks like the New World block will clear 4.5 with internal pickup. Which at this point using a internal pickup would be like taking a shower, and throwing on dirty underwear LOL.

Re: Milodon oil pan - 08/19/09 04:02 AM

No internal pickup; it will be an external system to avoid any problems. I have a Milodon windage tray good for +1" stroke but it doesn't fit any of the pans I have here. Ari turned me onto a Milodon 30931 pan some time ago but I'll have to trim the welded horizontal tray out of it to use the windage tray. I was just wondering if there was a pan that didn't need to be trimmed to fit the windage tray. Sorry I didn't include that little tidbit earlier.

Thanks for the info.
