Too much oil to the top end?

Too much oil to the top end? - 08/15/09 04:14 PM

I putting a hyd roller cam in my 505 motor with the Comp 8921 lifters. These lifters have the capability of oiling the pushrod so I went ahead and ordered pushrods with oiling ends. I have a conventional rocker arm system on there which oils internally so now I'll be sending oil up both places.

Anyone try this before? It might be too much oil to the top end but then again, because the hyd roller lifters don't have any lash there really shouldn't be much oil going up the pushrods. Guess we'll see how it works. I've been increasing the oil to the top end on my dyno motors the last several years in an attempt to limit pushrod heat but I haven't tried this combination yet.

With it all together on the stand the rocker arms oil flow oil to the roller ends and very little oil escapes the pushrod cups. So I bet it is going to work okay.

Andy, whats the spring pressure at seat... i"m guesssing
here BUT if you run light enough pressure the oil
pressure MIGHT try to open the valve just a touch
or it MIGHT just push the plunger down farther till
it has a bleed point to match each other

I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Oiling is good for the top end also will remove heat from the valve train . Don`t see any detriment .How`s you oil return though ?

I'm going to run the Howards Direct lube lifters that are AMC style which will also provide oiling through the push rods, I plan to also run stock oiling setup too. I figured this would be too much oil up top also. I talked to Manton, they will add a .030 restrictor free of charge when I order my push rods, this might be a option to consider

Yes, for a solid flat tappet that has lash open most of the time I'd probably use a restrictor in the pushrod also.
