I have trimmed many Darts, i usually go right up to the rocker panel end. On a dart you dont need any clearance on the back since the wheel opening tapers back...

Now i am building my sons duster and im thinking about trimming the qtrs. We are expecting to run 295 drag radials or 29.5 Ws (basically a 30") tire.

Is is common to trim the front and the REAR of the opening??

It all depends how high you want the car to sit. If you want it to sit low, you need to cut the front and the rear.

If you're ok with it sitting up a little, you actually don't need to trim either. You can just move the axle back about 3/4" and it will fit...

I have a 73 duster running 29.5 x 10.5's. The 1/4 panel front of the tire has been cut when I bought the car. Raced it for about a year that way. Now I am in the process of making the wheel well bigger and still retain the stock look. I am thinking of putting in the same tire or going with 30 x 9's. If I go with the 10.5's I'm going to have to narrow the axle about 1 inch each side. I've got lots of pictures and details on my blog.

No you don't have to do anything to the 1/4 panel behind the tire - theres plenty of room there. Its only the front that has problems because Ma Mopar decided to make the 1/4 panels curve inwards towards the tire there... :-(
