Indy max oil drain - 07/29/09 03:50 AM

I have my engine apart to do some changes and was wondering if anybody drilled some holes in the valley or put drains in the back and or front to get some of that top end oil back down.

thanks

ooohh yes. first time i assembled my maxx block engine it was forever turning on the oil light just before the stripe. i had rung ICH & asked about whether these holes needed to be enlarged but they said no so i built it as is. next time the engine was out i enlarged the holes, this did improve the drainback as the light never came on till after the stripe & i was just starting to deaccellerate. at the stripe i could see the oil guage start to drop. next time out i chamfered the holes & made dividers. this was the trick for my engine, at a track i sometimes race at, it's an airstrip with over a mile of sealed surface. i raced one of my buddies to the 1/2 mile mark & the oil guage was hard on 80 psi the whole way. i figured the dividers allowed the oil to be seperated so there were more holes for the oil to return down & with all this excess oil i made a crank scraper to quickly rechannel it back to the pan. i think my holes are 5/8 since thats the largest drill in my collection.
