Anyone know a part number for the Auto Meter oil warning light to turn on at 20 psi and screw into an 1/8" pipe thread?? I know Summit has it from Rebco but I was told NAPA would have it but I have called three stores with no luck.

Most napas sell pressure switches with different psi ratings , SW has one series that is both open or closed depending on how you wire it , hobbs makes similar senders

got it from a napa store ,just ask for a idiot ligth its 1/8 npt

Moroso used to sell a kit that was set a 15 psi(or so) ...and had a 2" red-lite to go with it.

I dont know why you would hook it up to a light, hook
it to the ignition so if you go below X pressure it
kills the ignition

Thats how I did mine ,hobbs switch thru the msd key feed , if ya dont have 15 psi no spark, I need to turn the engine some on start up so it dosent kick back anyway one switch does both

In my business we use oil pressure switch/gauges on large natural gas engines that are adjustable on the face, the gauges are made by FW Murphy, in a lot of the country you can order these from a NAPA store or if you live in an area where there is oil and natural gas you can buy at a lot of supply stores, I use one of those, mine is hooked to a light, it saved my engine once when I bent a push rod and threw out a lifter about the time I shifted to high gear. You might see if you can find one of those. Here is there homepage, they may have a dealer close to you, they sell a lot of stuff for industrial applications besides oil and gas.

The hobbs switch works good, I don't have enough time running in 200 ft to look at the gauges, It has shut down the engine twice on hard breaking on short shut down lanes

I used to run a 50psi sender from Moroso. Yes the light was on at idle and in the pits. But you knew if you were having a problem down track.

I agree with DVW. If you are using a light preset to 20#, and you have a fast car, when you notice the lite coming on signaling you only have 20# of oil pressure, many times that is going to be too late. You want it to signal you at a higher pressure so that you will notice it, look at the pressure guage BEFORE any damage can occur. The Moroso units come with an adjustable switch that will go up to 50#. I'd suggest a 40-50PSI setting, and yes, the lite will be on at idle. Again, you arent most likely going to blow your engine up at idle. Most racers are concentrating on driving, and by the time they get thru the traps, going thru shutdown is when they start looking at guages etc. This is most likely too late when there is a problem. at least if it comes on at 40 or 50#, you have time to save it and find the problem.
I do run the bearing clearnances loose, .0035+ on both rods and mains
