pinks in seattle? - 07/18/09 05:31 AM

Hey all, anyone get official word for pinks at pacific, ie. package in the mail from them, thanks Tim

Re: pinks in seattle? - 07/18/09 05:59 AM

I couldn't wait any longer....had to reserve a ferry for the 13th. Let me tell you Tim...there are NO reservations left for any other boat on the 13th except the 7:45 AM out of Duke point.
Friggin tourists have the boats all reserved!!The track has to consider that there are a lot of people who have to arange travel and accomodations a LOT sooner than 3 weeks notice!!
I knew this was going to happen.
How 'bout it Dustin.....any talk down your way???

E-mailing them doesn't seem to work !

Tried one phone call and it didn't get answered either.
Man...only 3 weeks away and still don't know diddly squat!

Re: pinks in seattle? - 07/22/09 12:43 AM

4.46 330' and a new best at 4.912 on Western's short track.
It's that 330' time that's giving me some elated optimism that this pig may run a 10.70 at Alberni.
It sure pulls like a freight train with that new cam (ONCE it hooks) Traction gremlins again.
60' was 1.54...nothing to write home about, but a little playing with the carbs and I think I can better that.

WOW Richard.

My best down there was a 4.70, 60' sucked because I blew the tires off.

I'm happy for you, as you've had a season like I've had in the past.

See ya in a couple weeks.

Good Tim.....we'll flip the coin in the parking lot to see who buys breakfast on the ferry!!!
We'll have to stop in Blaine and load up with some of that Yankee "swill"...you know...the $15.00 24 pack of your choice!!

As far as the car goes...it'll launch with the wheels up about 6", but 20 feet out it's a crap shoot as to whether it'll stay hooked or blow the tires off. I still think it's the dam track....they're using some "Walmart" brand VHT that's diluted severely and they're pretty lax about resprays. Two good hits, then on the third run it incinerates the tires. That's with the M/T ET street radial at 17# . Maybe they need more air?
I just stuck new tubes in the Hoosiers and screwed them down. I might stuff those on for Fridays Shootout. Nothin' to lose!!!

Aside all that, it's nice to hear that something is in the works as far as the paperwork for Pinks.

Got it today. Lot's of "Rules" and procedure stuff.

Oh well....time to get serious I guess. We have one more big 1/4 mile meet here on the Island next weekend with 300+ cars . That'll be the last time to tune and see what it'll run.
Here's hoping everything stays together this year!

what,s the better way to head down that way the 1-5 through seattle or the 405, not sure where the 405 starts, Tim
Posted By: Bruce

Re: pinks in seattle? - 07/29/09 06:51 PM

You pick up 405 in the Lynwood area. It's a better road than I-5. It's exit 182. You can't miss the exit.

405 to Renton. Take 167 southbound (Exit #2 right in Renton) for about 10 miles till Highway 18--take that eastbound. Pacific Raceways is about another 5 miles on the right, can't miss it.

Gotcha!
Now...could one of you fellas maybe PM me as to a reasonably close place to shop (like Safeway, Albertsons, or whatever) for food etc (beer???!!!) near the track.Seems we're not allowed to bring much of anything thru the border.
Someplace easy on and off the highway?

Instead of PM, I'll just post here, you're probably not the only one with this question. Easiest place would be from the track would be to get back on Hwy 18 east bound to the next exit 1 mile down the road to the City of Covington. They've got Safeway, Fred Meyer, parts stores, all the usual places plus some restaurants and such if you want to go have dinner with the family.

Is there a Speed Shop nearby to buy race gas and Nitrous? or do they sale this stuff at the track?

Also, whats the temp/wind in comparison to Seattle? Is it usually hotter.. colder or more windy?

Thanks
Posted By: Triple Threat

Re: pinks in seattle? - 07/30/09 01:25 AM

Race Gas is available at the track, bring a debit/credit card, just swipe it like a normal gas station. I believe its Sunoco and your choices are 100 Unleaded, 110 leaded and 112 leaded. Nitrous, your nearest speed shop would be Honest Performance in Federal Way, not sure about price or anything, might try giving them a call. I think they will want to chill your bottle ahead of time .... http://honestperformance.com

Here would be Mapquest directions from the track to Honest

DIRECTIONS TO HONEST PERFORMANCE VIA PR

Weather for mid august would be in the range of 70-85 degrees, with temps likely towards the higher end during the day. That same week last year it was over 90 degrees, and its over 100 right now in the PNW region so who knows where it might actually be. Not terribly windy, we have these things called Evergreen trees all around the track that help stop some of that.

the event i my opinion was the best race ive ever been to, i had troubles with my car, lost 1/2 sec and 8 mph if it would have ran the number it did at the test and tune 10.34, im pretty sure i would have been in the race, that being said i would recommend trying to go a pinks show if you can get in, tried to meet as many people as i could who post on this site, my wife and kids got interviwed and filmed along with a couple buddys from our pit , it was a pretty close field too

**** Post Contains Some Results Information ****

It was a great day. A great show was put on by some hard-charging racers, and I must say the Speed Chanel crew lays out a great day! The B.C. Contingient stood out with some of the nicest cars on the property, including some of our own moparts guys. It was nice talking with Richard, and sorry, Richard, for the drool on the fender..... his 6-pak Challenger is a masterpiece! Dustin Made a showing in the Burnout Contest with his Dart. And if Anybody here knows the crew that campaigns the "Victoria" Super Stock Hemi Barracuda, Tell him thanks for coming down! Even my Chevy buddy agreed that this car was the nicest piece of iron on the property. A few mopars made the 32-car field, and a local Dart made it to the Semi-Finals, before losing to an 18 y.o. kid in a wheelstanding Corvette that, as much as I hate to admit it, was THE SHOW all day, carrying WAY high wheelstands through the 60 ft. markers time & time again. The final pitted two Chebbies, but both were wheelstanding show-stoppers, with a nice '71 Chevelle meeting up with the Vette in the final. Minimal oil-downs, great racing, great day..... The Northwest racers did themselves proud on this day.

Final note: The greatest driving job I have ever seen was laid down buy a guy in a 9-second Willy's early in the day. He hit a slick spot and found himself suddenly out of shape at about 1000 feet, doing nearly 120! Sideways left, staring at the near lane barrier..... pitched back the other way and avoided contact, only to find himself quickly in the other lane looking directly at the opposite barrier, only to successfully negotiate that disaster as well. How he drove it out the end without a scratch, I will never know. But hats off to that guy!!

The guy in the SS Cuda is Peter Wille,he owns and runs Victoria Automatic, and Island Convertors, though ironically he races mostly stick cars. He has some beautiful cars. I used to watch him run at Western Speedway in Victoria in the 80's, he used to pound through gears in his gorgeous black 70 Hemi Cuda like nobody could.

The Willys wild ride you spoke of, was it orange? If it was I was in the other lane when he lost it and ended up in my lane.

We had an absolute BLAST at Pinks, though I didn't have the best of luck I would do it again in a heartbeat. My first pass on Friday was good, I was expecting a 10.32 and it ran a 10.324.Second pass the tree comes down so fast I didn't quite get it to WOT before I let go of the button and it ran a 10.41, a bit of a slip up but not serious. Saturday on my first pass when they pointed to me to go into the waterbox, I put it into gear and the heavy spring on my shifter broke. It mostly holds the handle from flopping around or so I thought. I did my burnout and was happy to get all three gears. I had a good launch but it didn't shift into 3rd the first time I hit it. I knew right then I was sunk. I ran a 10.56...I went to town and bought a new shifter (it was the oldest part on my car!)got back and thrashed to get it all in and just barely made it into the end of my class. I ran a 10.36 on my second pass on Saturday.

The group they picked were right in my bracket,(10.20-10.40ish) if I could have run between a 10.32 and a 10.36 on the pass where I broke my shifter (it predicted a 10.34)I think I would have had a good chance of getting in.

It was an awesome day though, and there were so many people! It blows me away to see someone finally figured out how to fill the stands with people to watch a race with relatively slow cars! 10.40 cars! and it was exciting!Hats off to the Speed Network and the Pinks All out crew!!! Can't wait for the next one.

I'm going back to Pacific Raceways this weekend for the Pacific Sportsman Nationals.

Re: pinks in seattle? - 08/17/09 05:42 AM

GEnsrud.....I actually DID have to clean a "slobber" off a fender!!!! That's funny!
Thanks for the compliment.
We just got home here at 10:00 Pm...a long day of travling for sure.
That weekend was absolutely astounding...so many people...so many nice machines...and a real pleasure meeting some of you Moparts Guys and families.
We had Rich's right hand man Willie at the car for a good 1/2 hour on Friday...he's definitely hooked on Mopars!!
Hey..as far as a masterpiece is concerned, there were lots of them there this weekend. WOW!!
And I ran new bests of 10.930, 10.942, and 10.953 all at around 121 MPH and got that pesky 60' down to 1.51....the track prep was excellent. Just a couple of valve cover leaks to sort out was all I had happen, so that was a relief.
I really have to thank my son MoparDonny for all his work this weekend....and he had a blast too meeting all the guys.
We'd both do it again for sure.
And thanks to you fellas that gave us trip info for routes, food, etc......it sure saved a lot of time and hassle.

Chris, yeah it was the car that raced you.. The crowd went nuts... Saw your car, but never got to come chat. My brother and I will both be racing in the 50K race next weekend. I gotta find the time to say hi.

Superwrench, gorgeous car. I spoke to your son? for a few minutes about the car but didnt meet you. Did see the car make a clean run on saturday though.

All of the 5 cars in our group ran basically flawless, with 3 of us all running in the 11.7's in street trim, but it just wasn't meant to be I guess!

Great time was had by all, and I look forward to the next time I have an opportunity to race at Pinks.

I had a blast this weekend . Got out of the truck at 9PM or so and the first person I saw was Mike (StrokerScamp). Had a quick BS with him and set up camp for the weekend. Met some other Moparts Members but I'm bad with names these days, Refresh my memory if I talked to you!! .
When Willie came over I couldn't figure it out as to why he looked so familiar, he's alot taller in person than on camera.
Sorry Mike, I wanted to come find you for another BS but I didn't see you around when I finally got around to heading up to your end of the pits. Met Dustin (TripleThreat) on the way out of the track yesterday morning, I stood by your car during the drivers meeting and was gonna say Hi but My Dad (SuperWrench) came by first and I left.
I really enjoyed the weekend and would love to go back to Pacific Raceway again.
The only real issue I had all weekend was with the toilet paper in the outhouses. WOW!!! That stuff was bad!

For some reason I didn't take any pictures at the track and I forgot my video camera when I went into the grandstands to watch. Maybe next time.

Thanks to all that came by for a chat and hopefully we'll meet again.

Don.

Yes it was a fun weekend, met jeepmon, tried to find stroker scamp a few times but your pits were empty the 2 times I dropped by. i was way back in staging when chris made his pass. I ran a 10.30 and then 10.244 on friday. Saturday I hit the same spot on the track just as i shifted into drive and I went sideways, a little and backed off, ran a 11. there, second hit on the arm drop was a 10.23 so all went well. A little frustrating sometimes with what was going on but all in all there was a huge crowd and lots of laughs. Hope to see ya all again one day.We peddled it pretty good coming home and made it in 13 1/2 hours.

We were gonna come over and have a beer with ya but you know how things were. Man did we spend alot of time talking to people. My voice was actually starting to go a little by Saturday afternoon. Beer helped in keeping my throat moist. Man I love how Dirt cheap beer is down there.

HOLY CARP!!! thats scary...funny thing is the guy in the other lane on Friday lost it and hit the wall as well!!!I had no idea he was that close, and that was the run that it wouldn't shift into 3rd so I guess I was pretty lucky!Someone was watching out for me? Thanks alot Tim.

**** Post Contains Some Results Information ****

Final note: The greatest driving job I have ever seen was laid down buy a guy in a 9-second Willy's early in the day. He hit a slick spot and found himself staring at suddenly out of shape at about 1000 feet, doing nearly 120!

You know I am just blown away here.As always I beat myself up for a week when I lose. I didn't know whether to be happy it was something beyond my control,(the shifter breaking) or mad for the same reason. Then I thought damn I'm an idiot, when it wouldn't shift I should have got out of it and I might have got another qualifying run. Seeing that if I had've let off we'd be having a WHOLE DIFFERENT conversation because he definitely would have hit me square in the drivers door!!! Holy cow!

Re: pinks in seattle? - 08/19/09 01:49 AM

I watched it a hundred times, when the Willy's comes into the picture, you can just barely see my front end drop. I was on the rev limiter because it wouldn't shift so I gave the gas pedal a pump and at that split second it shifted and I accelerated away! I had no idea he was having trouble until I got back to the pits and my crew told me.

Chris,
I'll try to make sure to stop by your pit this weekend, but we can hope that being double entered and going rounds neither of us have the time til after racing is done.

My buddy mentioned that it was a good thing you were out the back door. Had you gotten out of it, It coulda' gotten real ugly! Although, after watching the way the guy handled the whole thing, he may have found a way to get around you. If I remember correctly, You guys had to wait in the burnout box for a VW in his lane to clear after shutting down in that same area, didn't you?

Thanks.....now get this.....

We're sitting back at the pits after the 2nd run on Saturday just waiting for the anouncement for the 32 car field, and two soon-to-be pit woofies come strolling by and ask if they can have their picture taken beside my Pink Pig.
So...they get their pic, and then they decide it would be a great idea if they'd get me to autograph their..... .. well..you know...!!
You shoulda seen and heard my wife....she asked me just exactly how big my head was after that !!!!
Yeah....I was sorta astounded with the comments on the car.....I don't even consider it as nice as most people see it, but I guess it must be OK.
It's nowhere near as nice as it was before I decided to go racing with it.
