anyone use Goodyear Slicks and have good luck with them - 07/08/09 08:44 PM

my 63 plymouth is coming home in a few hours from arc's shop . he just installed my ladder bars and we got the back to sit nice and low.
the car has always run 29 x 10.5W x15 hoosier slicks with no rubbing issues at all.
now that the car has ladder bars, it looks like all ill be able to get in the stock quarter panels with no mini tubs is a 30 x 10.5 x 15 slick.
the hoosiers have been wearing out way too fast and i havent run a goodyear yellow letter slick before and i was wondering if they are any better than a M/T or Hoosier.
do they last or wear out fast like the Hoosiers.
M/T last but was looking to try a Goodyear with the new suspension.
can anyone that runs them tell me why they run them over the other brands?

because they work the best, period.

they cost more and may not last as long, but did I say they work the best

Your results may very as every car combo is different. My digger loves Goodyear and so does my doorcar. But, they are BIG bologna's, 34.5x17x16, smaller tires are a different beast all together.

i have goodyears in my 65 and they have lasted longer than the M/T's by far and seem to have better handling manners. Also hook really well

I used to run M/T's but switched to Phoenix. 29.5W tire. Much longer life.

IMO Goodyears are the best, with phoenix being a close second.
The M/Ts and hoosiers are walmart style slicks ( lo-$$)for the average sportsman. I personally will not buy hoosiers again due to their short life span.

I have a bracket car and want the best bang for my buck. My M/T's sidewalls would go away long before the wear holes. The Phoenix I have now were two years old in June, half of the wear holes are completely gone and they still hook. Trying to make the summer on them. This is a W tire with tubes, no sidewall or stability issues.

11.00 30's Good Years here, no holes left and they still have the same sixty ft. as they did when new, no Sht! Put in tubes when the side walls started leaking and kept on hooken.

I switched once from goodyear to M/T and must say it was the absolute worst decision I have ever made for my race car. The Goodyears I took off the car had prolly 250 passes or more on them and were old. At the time I took them off I thought I needed tires cause they were 250 passes old(they were hooking 1.31-1.32 consistently), my brand new M/T best 60' was 1.34, I ditched em after around 70 passes and put a new set of goodyears on and guess what 1.29-1.31 and they easily last almost 2 seasons on my car with many passes and lots of sidewall abuse(no tubes). Needless to say my car will never again see another tire manufacturer other than goodyear on it.

thanks for all the replys, i am going to buy a set of goodyear 30 x 10.5 x 15 tomorrow.
hoosiers i feel are a cheap tire that goes away after about 40 passes.
i do like the M/T's on my 65 dodge and 65 hemi but i am going to try the goodyears and if they work as good as you guys say they do, im switching over on all my cars.
i used the old style goodyear eagles with the white letters years ago and i liked them before.

I run 30x10.5 hoosiers and get 300 runs out of them ..Set a year..You need to learn how to control your burn outs. have the car set up right..

Well Goodyear works very well for me and my tank beats up the sidewalls pretty good.

If I remember right the yellow slicks are the "Chilli tires" . Someone tell me if I'm wrong?

Re: anyone use Goodyear Slicks and have good luck with - 07/09/09 04:46 PM

I ran 28 and 29x9 good/years and 28x9 m/t on my dart 3000 lbs 1.41 60' with either brand the side walls gave out long before the tread I could get 200 passes out of the m/t before they were junk the good years were only good for 125 to 150 but may have been a bit more consistent for the first 50 passes

Don't forget that Goodyear has different compounds. You will see varying results but mine are the D5 compound stiff tire.

You might have to ask GoodYear.

I just wish GoodYear made a DOT slick like the
Hoosier QTP's. As far as the best drag slick?
GoodYear, hands down!
