Mopar Nats in Columbus - Questions - Q16 - 07/05/09 01:39 PM

Hi,

Wondering if someone out there could give me a some info on the Columbus nats...any idea of what to expect for a bump point on Q16. I have never been to the Nats and am thinking of taking my Viper...Low 7's and my Dragster 8.0's will these make the field? If you don't make the field will you give tossed into superpro? I have IHRA tags...will they let me run? The NHRA tags are outdated last year.
Also, Can you camp out at the track for the weekend?
Anything special I need to know?
Thanks!!!!!

Hi Ron,your Viper will probably make the field, your dragster will be iffy. They hold you strickly to NHRA and will not accept IHRA.We had the same issue this year at CCs at Columbus.Fortunately we were able to get a NHRA tech to give us a 30 day chassis certification since we were NHRA tagged but expired, you may not be that lucky.Call Div-1 tech inspector Tom Blair 724-539-8187 and get your NHRA certifiction Tag.Your licience must be NHRA current also.

I never raced at the Nats but have been there as a spectator. I have heard there is no camping at the track and everyone has to leave and come back in the morning. You can however leave your car and trailer there over night

Correct as their is no camping. Bunch of us will be heading out Thursday from Pittsburgh. We will be staying at Heath this year for the cruising also. We always have fun there!

The bump last year was 9.60. I know because I made the field with my Cuda.

Not to many quick cars go to the Nats. It's a zoo and takes forever to make a pass. Track prep is next to nothing, can't stay at the track. They don't give any preferred parking and very good chance you'll be in the mud. We haven't gone to the Nats since the first year back to Columbus. Oh did I mention how hot it is and how crowded it is?

Monster Mopar is a better choice if you can travel a bit further. Q32 with 16 door cars and the bump is usually around a 7.40 to 7.60.

Head to the CC Classic in Michigan we'll have 5 TS cars from Chicago all run low 7's! or 4.50-4.60 in th 1/8.

The Nats is always a good time as long as the weather is bearable. The last couple of years the weather has been amazing though. You cannot camp at the track. Too many high $$$$ cars that must be secured at night to let folks camp out. You can camp beside the track or there are plenty of decent hotels in the area. The night life is the best part of the Nats cruising on Brice road friday night and Heath on Saturday night. The track has been great the last couple of years.

Thanks everyone for the input...sort of sounds like the nats isn't for me...two cars in a stacker, dogs, babys 80' rig and you have to leave and come back...seems like a lot of hassle, guess we would have to stay at Walmart or a campground...The Mopar Q32 sounds like fun...is it at Milan? No problem traveling , we love to travel....When is the next Chrysler Classic event? The Norwalk event is always a awesome time, even if you do spin around!
Thank you everyone for everything.

I may be mistaken but I think that you can camp at the campground next to the track

St. Louis is a blast they moved the date a bit further in Septmeber, but it only means better weather. Below is the web site with the information. Pretty much it gets ALL the quick Mopar cars in the country and it's $10,000 to WIN!
