Nice trailer and the fun of getting in and out of the car makes a winch look real good.

Re: test fit car,trailer today. - 07/04/09 08:02 PM

i have about 8" on each side so keeping to 1 side should help a lot.it will take some getting use to pulling in though maybe rubbing the wheel well if it wont hit the fender.

Be careful having it too close to the passenger side. Ask me how I know..... What happend to me was the car bounced and the door hit the fender well

Re: test fit car,trailer today. - 07/04/09 09:06 PM

Dont get in the car...line it up and then winch it in the trailer (CENTERED) so you dont have damage issue...kepp the driverside window down in case you need to adjust the wheels or if you have lexan and cant roll them down, then kick the tire or put a guide down on the floor so the tire will follow without a driver in it... Good luck..

Get a Winch.

It is a good investment, you wont regret it....

I dont have a "escape" door on mine,,,so getting in and out would be tough.

I LOVE having a winch....use it all the time...makes loading and unloading a breeze,,,,

What size trailer did you get ?
looks nice,,,with all the diamond plate...

You'll use that......once. Then you'll go buy a winch. The come-along will make you want to shoot yourself, ask me how I know.LOL
Trailer looks great Mike! I got tired of all the work with the box trailer and the big expensive truck it requires to pull it, I switched to a Durango and borrowed an open trailer yesterday, seemed more relaxing and less work, = more fun.
Good luck with it, they are nice when it rains. Plus you can unload it when you feel like it.

tractor suply huh. my car weighs 4,000lbs but it took minimum force to wench it in.if i get a splitter pulley i can double the pulling by increasing the ratio.

get a winch . what till its 95 degrees and you raced till midnite then start cranking by hand .I have a electric winch with a 30' cord for 7 years they make the remote controll you don't have a cable going to get that now.IMO you say you got a good deal so spend some more on the next thing to make your racing fun and easier.
also you can wire through 12v truck harness to winch .

did you get the car in thier with that winch and chain strap setup ? looks like you would have to reset several times and remove those chains and straps because it wont get up inside trailer enough .I have a 24 ft your winch is just at the fender i assume you cant get in to set park and would block wheels several times to set those chains are going to scratch the new floor.

You can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink. Take the good advice and get a winch, Diego got his from harbor frieght, I think it is an 8000# for around 300.00 its working great no problems.

Mike I have a Superwinch 4500 just sitting here, you're welcome to use it til I get my trailer, which could possibly take a couple months as I have to sell my 91 Firebird and then special order the trailer. Let me know, only takes 2 bolts to bolt it down.

You wont need a 4000# winch to pull your car onto the trailor. As you found out it took some minimal force to pull your car up that very gradual incline of your encloseds ramp. It probably took less then 500# of force.

Your boat hand crank will work fine. It will just take more effort.

You by far Dont have to buy a $500 dollar winch setup.

I bought a HF 2000# winch on sale for $39 bucs that worked great for winching my #3000 ride up Steep ramps. It even pulled a couple of #4500 plus rides up onto my trailor too with a little Human assist.

The same winches sell for $49 now. After years of great easy use I gave it to a friend. I up graded to a #3500 $89 winch. Its alot stronger but it Sucks. If you dont keep tension on the cable during unwind, the cable unspools itself and Jams.

I wish I had my $39 winch back Your type Hand crank sells for $20 bucs at HF. The one you have is free.

Congrats on the new enclosed it looks nice. I love the diamond plate. mike

Thanks Mike! i love the diamond plate also.i got it in just in time to move my daughter and 2 grand kids from florida to ohio in it last month.by the way i got the boat winch for free.some1 threw it out new in the box.single gear 1200lb but it will do the job.with it also i can put 50ft of cable on and just keep cranking instead of rowing with the comealong.

Re: test fit car,trailer today. - 07/05/09 07:07 PM

Don't forget to set the tongue weight. Should be between 10 and 15% of the gross trailer weight. You will be a happier driver with it closer to 15%.
Posted By: Blucuda413

Re: test fit car,trailer today. - 07/05/09 07:22 PM

Stationary lexan windows. I drive mine in close to the left side. I then crawl over to the right door and stick my left foot out over the bar. I can then squeeze out the right door. Not difficult at all and sure beats the contortionists positions I can't get into anymore trying to go out the left side.

i am not sure how to get it close but i measured from my old trailer posession over the wheels, distances.the old 1 was only 20ft including the tongue. so i have 8 more ft pluss the tongue in front.i use load springs on the hitch to help tongue weight.

Oh no Mike, Plan on burning up some transmissions and not much stability. Just being honest. With my 24' Haulmark and 3000# DartSport my 4.7 litre 'Ram' labored horribly all the way to and from the track and burned up the tranny. Switched to a Hemi Ram and all was good but too expensive for me.

Mike..

Drive it in and have someone help you center it.
Then use a tennis ball on a string and hang it from the ceiling so that it touches the windshield where you have a mark.

Leave the tennis ball permanently so you will always put it the same place..

Good Luck.
