drilling air bleeds for e-85 - 05/30/09 12:06 AM

I believe im supposed to go smaller on the air bleeds. I have .030 and .70 in my Demon. I have new air bleeds and want to drill them. Where do I buy drill bits for thousands, and what size should I start drilling the holes for the new bleeds?

Im sorry the carb is an 850 mighty Demon anular boosters.I just want to know where to start on my sizes for drilling.I have Quick fuel e-85 metering blocks. Ive jetted up ten sizes and have added the new blocks, all I need now is to find out where to start. The sizes of bleeds now are .033 and .070

Maybe 440Jim will see this post and tell you what
sizes he used... I believe he used a 850... could have
been a 950.... I use a 1050 dom which will be different

I dont recall... I had Quick Fuel set my 1050 but
about a month ago I measured them for someone on here
but I didnt save the numbers.... PM 440Jim... he
was posting on the meth/E-85 post just a short time ago

Since nobody else is talking I might as well shoot my mouth off. Why do you think you need to change the air bleeds? E85 does require more fuel but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to change the air metering. FWIW, I've been playing with E85/race gas blends in my 4150 and haven't touched the air bleeds and the fuel curve isn't, that is it's flat at WOT. I've only run as high as 50% ethanol but I've found no need to change the bleeds. I've changed everything that handles liquid or and air/fuel mix however.
The reasons for sneaking up on 85% are that I have a half drum of race gas and I don't think my fuel pump is adequate for E85, we'll see. I use an Innovate LM-2 to record rpm and afr.

this is 440Jim's set up

I modified a Holley 950HP carb. So far this is what I am running:

PMJ � .129" (drilled)
SMJ � .129" (drilled)
Power Valve � 3.5
PVCR -- .070"
IFR between 0.032 and 0.040 (not changed from original gas)
IAB -- .063
HSB -- .028
Cross channel to booster -- .157"
anti-siphon -- stock
eholes -- .029", plugged, .029"
Accel pumps are both 30cc
pump cams -- pink
squirters -- .037(front), 0.040(rear) (hollow screws)

0.130" SS needle and seats
7 psi fuel pressure at idle (6 WOT)

That should get you closer than the gasoline air bleeds. But remember the 850 has a bigger venturi then the 950 and the same size throttle bore (butterflies).
