Can I mix head studs and head bolts? - 05/26/09 09:22 PM
If you have seen the other posts, I blew the head gaskets in the 416 T/A with eddy heads. It is a restored car just with a nice 416 in it. Can I put studs to replace the bolts that are under the valve covers and use the bolts on the outside of the head to keep the restored look, or do I have to use all bolts or all studs?

I was always led to believe that studs gave a better clamping force than bolts if both were tightend to the same torque.

I used bolts under the ex ports for header clearance issues with iron heads. I don't think a couple of studs in the middle will help against blowing gaskets
