Electric pump w/o thermostat - 05/21/09 02:32 PM
How many of you are running electric pump w/o thermostat? I pulled the radiator cap off last night and notice the flow was so much that it was actually trying to slosh out the opening making me think the flow is too much without the thermostat. Thinking of gutting a thermostat and trying that to slow down the flow. This is a street/strip car mostly strip. What's your thoughts?

No thermostat here w/ the "drop-in" Meziere pump. It doesn't try to slosh water out the radiator like you're describing. Works good enough that it's sitting out in the parking lot here at the office.

I gutted my thermostat.....

Too much water flow is not possible imho(unless we are dealing with over cooling). That is a common misconception and does not coincide with the laws of Thermodynamics.
Even if the water flows faster and has less time to transfer heat to the radiator...it also has less time to absorb heat in every pass through the engine....so thats a wash. Also, now the water flows through the radiator many more times per hour. Thats my belief anyways.
I still use a stat with my electric pump to help it warm up faster as I have it wired by a relay connected to the ignition switch.

That is correct, the more flow the better. I'd think with an electric pump there wouldn't be any reason for a thermostat. Just keep the pump off until you see the needle on the temp gauge start to move up and then flip the switch.
