Motor for chassis car?

Motor for chassis car? - 04/27/09 09:18 PM

Ok since I'm new to the tube chassis world I figured I'd ask acouple questions before I dive in to my build. I just purchased a 73 Dart sport tube car. Its mild square chassis with all aluminum tin work. The whole car can't weight alot because me and a friend picked the front end up with ease to load it on the trailer. The engine has been set back and it has a dana with 4.56's and 33x16 tires. My question is...Would a mild bb/glide in this car get me into the 7's in the 1/8th. I'm wanting to start with a motor just above stock to get used to the car and to street drive Will a slightly hotter than stock motor get me there?

7s ? I think a decent mild motor will get you deep into 6s with good parts that match.

Well thats def. a good thing. I was thinking about just hopping up a 383 that I already have and sticking it in there. The glide I have is still stock geared and I will probably cheap on the converter until I get ready to build a more serious motor for it in a couple years. I'm planning on a low deck 496 but I figure its best to learn with a cheap budget motor. Will the 4.56 be enough with that much tire?

A 7. flat is 11.00 in the 1/4 and if the car(race
weight) is like 2700 lbs, 425 hp will get you there,
thats pretty mild to me for a BB
