46RH/A518 converter - 05/01/24 04:00 AM
Hey there. Wondering if a 727 converter will work in an A518? I have one in my 90 Ram D150 that I'm Hemi swapping. It's a non lock up A518. Will have 4.56 gears, 30" tall tires, basically stock pre Eagle 5.7 with a 6.1 cam, SRT exhaust manifolds, maybe ported heads, should make peak power around 6200-6500 rpm. Should weigh 4200lbs or so with me in it. Have a chance to buy a PTC 10" 3500 stall for a 727. If it will work I think it would be a decent converter.

Also agree - I use a 727 converter in the A-518 that I swapped into my Cuda.

A 727 Converter will work on any 2-wire (Non Lockup) A-518 transmission

Actually it will work on on any RE/RH if you make it a non-lockup.

How does one do that?
I mean the obvious part is the input shaft, and most likely part of the valve body...but any other internals???

Input shaft , corresponding stator support I assume , make sure the interface between the input shaft , thrust washer and mainshaft works. Possibly the valvebody but since lockup is electrically applied making sure it can't happen might be enough since if you are doing it to an RE you need the electronic govenor there and working ... unless you go full manual shifting ?

Input shaft and stator support. That’s all you “have to” replace.
