Any reason to switch to wrap-around style harness?

Any reason to switch to wrap-around style harness? - 04/04/24 03:22 PM

My new 5-point harness expired before I could install it. My Challenger still uses the OEM seats and has a single tab on the rollbar for the shoulder straps to bolt to behind the seat. The same style harness is also available as a wrap-around style for the shoulder straps. Is there any reason why I'd want to switch from what I have now to the wrap-around design? There's basically no price difference. Thx

I bought and used one set of the wrap around, never again tsk I had to set them up so the tab on the roll bar wouldn't let them move after finding out if I didn't cross them on that bar they would spread apart and not held me into the seat tightly like I prefer up work scope twocents

The only argument that could be made with a single anchor point it that is all that used to keep them from moving is that welded tab and bolt...I have run both and have both in my two cars currently.

iagree
Think of it this way...Would you rather pick up on the edge of a 3/16" thick wheelbarrow handle or a 1.625" round handle? That is what you belt straps are doing. I use wrap around. twocents

Over here in the UK 5 point harnesses are no longer legal, you can't actually buy a tagged 5 point anymore. Moved over to six point and the scrutineers all recommend wrap around.

Thinking at the moment about going w/ wrap-around and picking up some roll bar collars / clamps to keep 'em from moving apart too far under tension

I prefer wrap arounds with a retainer welded to the tube.

You made me look as I am old. Both of my racecars are wrap around the streetcar is a bolt in but uses two anchor points. But Ill admit those belts are OLD.
