PCV, EVAC or PUMP

At what point did you step up on a street driven BB.
Is Evac usable on the street? would you use a oil catch with the Evac?
Breather on one cover and evac on the opposite side? Or two evac's?

I would also like to know, I’m curious if anyone has tried using an OEM vacuum pump a lot of the European cars have? I use a PCV valve on one valve cover and a breather on the other. Definitely use a catch can

I run an evac on my race/street stroker. It pulls 5 inches at idle. Two breathers, one on each side in valve covers. Been like this for at least twenty years with no issues.
I would guess that a lot would depend on the cam specs. What I have works for my set up very well.

I run a GZ vacuum pump on the street. Works great, I'm happy with it.

I run a Moroso advanced 4 vane for street/strip use works great also.

Looks like a pump is the general choice even on a street car.
I may be looking into that.

I was recently thinking about the evac setup bc I am pushing oil out breathers at higher rpm. However, trying to figure out how Not to kill my o2 sensors in the collectors. So, I put it off for now. Just another thought if you run o2 sensors.

How do you get 5"hg at idle with breathers?

My simple set up.

When I had to meet a decibel rule at Sears Point many years back, we added a 3.5" exhaust w/race bullets & turndowns at the axle.
The 368" SB had a fairly low-tension ring package & the usual evac setup into the collectors.
That seemed to render the evac system useless.
Changed to a GM passenger car electric pump, which fixed it inexpensively.
Pulled about 5" or so, IIRC.

Chargerfan68 - I am running O2 sensors but I was thinking of moving the check valve downstream of the collector.

I don’t know to be truthful. I installed the evacuation system and checked it with a vacuum gauge and this is what I got. I do know that on the street, you need straight thru mufflers. Chambered mufflers have too much back pressure. Maybe this is why it works for me. I run Magnaflows.

For a mostly street car, I like two big hoses (-10). One on each valve cover to a breather tank. No pcv or pump.

So when you added the exhaust you lost pulse for the evac to function?
