Locking dipsticks for 727 - 10/24/23 10:08 AM

What is everyone using for a locking dipstick for their 727, BESIDES a Lokar setup? Looking for a budget setup, for my nephew.

Thanks.

I went with this one. Junkyard would be cheaper for sure but this was the cheapest one I could find new.

I just made a positive lock for the Lokar one. The rule changed a season or 2 ago, we needed to keep the flexible dipstick tube due to the CSR shield, the push lock was insufficient according to the rulebook and the techs were happy with it so all good.

I used the ATI locking plug for years but it doesn't have a dip stick , my dip stick tubes always seemed to leak by the trans. At Carlisle last year I bought an A&A dip stick and tube it fits nice and tight , no more leaks and it has the dip stick and locking handle.

I bought that one and tried to install. I was less than happy with the rubber seal fitment at the bottom so it hangs on my wall.

I safety wire mine down. It has passed NHRA tech staff before.

I use the same style one as Mancini sells...Not any issues with it and all clears the CSI shield.

Every time I’m at Pic-Part I get one off a Chevy truck or van, $0, I wound it it up stick in in the bag. Checkout lady says no charge. Get the right amount of oil in trans then cut new stick about same length, stick in and where the fluid shows make a good mark, done.

I have rhos on two different cars. The one w/o the shield was simple. With the shield it took a little finessing. Trim rhe bracket and slightly change the bracket angle. Took about 10 extra minutes.

This. And it's cheap and works.

A couple isssues with the GM stick. First the calibration is off. Easily remidied by drilling out the rivet holding the unit together. Then take a stock mopar stick and cut the top off. Grind it down to the GM width. Then drill a hole and use a small bolt and nut with loctite to put it back together. The bigger issue is that the GM tube is slightly smaller in diameter. It won't really lock. A single wrap of electrical tape around the rubber is enought to tighten it up. But eventially a new piece of tape is needed. This winter I'm going to build a swedge to shink the top of the tube.

The one in the Mancini link has the larger seal you DEFINITELY want!

Correction: I have one that's designed to work w/ a CSR shield: https://www.coperacingtrans.com/?product=727-big-block-stick-tube-wcsr-shield

I don't recall if I got it from Cope, but I definitely have that model... probably did since I got the shield from Cope when he had one while everyone else was waiting for orders to be filled.

I just checked both of the ones I got off the GMC trucks, both fit nice. Easy in and after locked it won’t come out. If pics are needed I can supply.
