Need MP 380HP crate 360 cam info please - 09/28/23 12:11 AM

Does anyone have the specs for the 380 horse 360 magnum crate engine roller camshaft? I know they aren't available anymore so I might want to have one ground. Or if someone has a cam they are willing to sell I would probably be interested in that. Thanks.

288/292 advertised, .501/.513 design lift w/1.6, 108 LSA

Mid 230s @.050

You didn't ask but the two pull outs I saw appeared to be Comp grinds that were done on Crane 2-piece blanks,
to explain how they got around the intermediate shaft gear issue.

Thank you, but I have to ask what intermediate shaft issue? Stock magnums are hydraulic roller why would there be an issue?

I’m wondering this too because I’m using the stock magnum pump gear shaft on my factory 380 cam, not started yet and I don’t want to mess it up.

Here's a good old article. I owned two of the 360/300hp ones and they were stout!

No issues at all, as long as the intermediate shaft gear and the cam gear are compatible everything's fine.

I've had two of the cams in my hands over the years, just reporting what I saw.

I'm sure you'll choose the right intermediate shaft gear for your application.

It's possible the 2 piece blank was entirely a wasted effort, and a regular one piece billet blank should have been used instead
with a stock style cam gear in the crate engine. At the time I assumed there must have been a reason for it.

Maybe there was no reason for the 2 piece cam blank at all. I have no idea. I last visited the topic around 2010....
Not much memory of it left, maybe I should not have posted. I'm sorry if I confused the issue and will go back under my rock.

OK, Y/W, good deal.

Had to check my own older posts to refresh memory because I don't use or need to retrieve this material very often anymore/use it or lose it.

Early 3.9s had some durability problems, they were eating the intermediate shaft gear and filling engines with metal, Chrysler couldn't do balance shaft like GM did on the 4.3.
The fix was a melonized gear. Back in the dinosaur era I had a print pulled to check material spec and it was on the print.

The melonized iron gear was then, fortunately for us, carried over to the 5.2/5.9 which I verified using Star Parts.
The nice thing about it is, it can be used on either an iron or a billet core/doesn't matter.

The MP crate engine cam in contrast had the 2 piece core/iron cam gear so it could use either an old style LA regular iron intermediate shaft gear, or a newer 3.9 melonized gear/doesn't matter.

So maybe not a great concern if the aftermarket cam is a one piece billet after all....sorry to go down the rabbit hole.

Good luck with the project and whatever you decide to do.

Ever find one? I just bought a 360/380hp crate engine, I'm about to pull the cam and swap in a milder stick. But I'm in Vancouver BC
