Randy Williams NPK Challenger - 12/11/22 03:08 PM

This had to be on of the nicest cars at PRI. Real headlamps and grille, chrome fender script.

That’s a pretty serious helping of “badassery” right there.

Brian Lohnes was interviewing Evan Smith and they both commented on what a nice car this was.

Re: Randy Williams NPK Challenger - 12/11/22 05:18 PM

I've noticed how most all the NPK guys run with an exposed trans.
I understand between-rounds maintenance/repairs, but that seems iffy.
Hot ATF, shrapnel, or whatever - regardless of the specific trans case, it just seems odd to me.

Nice car,, suppose that's a half million dollar build ?

Can it compete with the current crop of NPK racers such as (Ryan Martin, Kye Kelly, Daddy Dave)?

If it's tuned right no reason why not. All of these guys should make enogh power. It's putting it down that's the trick.

Re: Randy Williams NPK Challenger - 12/12/22 01:04 AM

Not that I have any reason to talk, but his old Dart and Dominator's Dart look like monster trucks going down the track compared to how down low everyone else is and man that Chally is slick!

I'm way behind on the current NPK season but there has been ALOT of fluid in the cabin this season...

That’s why they stipulate a minimum of SFI 15 clothing for an open trans.

Wizzard Racecars builds some really cool stuff. The did the chassis on my new truck. I have seen alot of thier work and always impressed. This is clearly no exception.

Do you think a thin piece of carbon or aluminum help much? If pieces can get out of the case they canb easily go through the thin cover material.. The part I dont like is the proximity of the driveshaft which is why they require tunnels as well for that. But it took a badly mangled arm to bring that about.

Re: Randy Williams NPK Challenger - 12/12/22 08:23 PM

No suit or helmet would prevent the shrapnel from the broken yoke assembly from causing deadly harm if it let loose.

Re: Randy Williams NPK Challenger - 12/12/22 09:04 PM

No, I don't think carbon fiber or thin aluminum sheet would offer any real protection against anything but fluid...
That would take at least a ballistic blanket or something equivalent, but no matter, it's apparently OK.
Agreed on the yoke area; I would think more could be done there on some of the cars.

Re: Randy Williams NPK Challenger - 12/12/22 09:56 PM

I think Ryan Martin had a failure in the yoke joint area in a NPK episode. Could have been last season. Some of the shrapnel exited the roof. That area is just scary. You would think that area would have some type of protection, especially an exposed yoke assemble.
