lifters

Going to be purchasing a new solid flat tappet cam. Looking at lifters and see some now are direct lube lifters (have small hole in bottom of the lifter). Any reason not to get the direct lube lifters? Seems like it would be extra helpful with today's cams which seem more prone to eating a lifter.

I like those direct lube lifters with the oil hole on the face.
Some brands might need different length pushrods, so check it.

Most stock unbushed lifter bore blocks leak a ton of oil around the lifters flooding the cam lobes, maybe you should check yours to see how much yours leak now
The reason that some lifter company started adding the direct lube holes on the bottom were for BB Chevy, not for Mopar motors

I used Howards EDM lifters on my current flat tappet cam and no issues. I think they are AMC lifters because they oil through the the pushrods and they are 1/8 taller than my old Comps so yes some brands my be taller.

I use PPP tool steel lifters on my AMC stocker. They have the EDM hole on the face. You almost need a magnifying glass to see it, it’s that small.

I had five years on my EDM lifters from Hughs on a .650 lift cam in my small block. I didn’t mic everything yet but they look good and the car was still running 6.0’s.

Since the edms are pressurized right on the lobe wouldnt one think its many many times better then splashed oil? Just setting up a cam we see how much oil/lube the lifter wipes off the lobe. Just on setup lashing the valves I see the lobes start to wipe dry so every 2-3 turns I got the oil can out, looks to do the same with cam lube.

So why wouldnt pressurized oil from the lifter base to lobe not be very helpful?

I have comp cams e.d.m. lifters on my bullet cam. #155 seat, #350 open. No problems for 5 years. Hole is supposed to be .021" and look like it too.
