X2 Power battery

X2 Power battery - 07/25/22 02:33 AM

I needed a new battery for the Coronet so I went over to the local Batteries Plus to look around. I need a 24F type battery since the way the battery box is laid out I need the positive on the left side so the cables don't cross each other. Well that automatically puts me into the "weird" category since the 24F battery isn't very popular. After some discussion they sold me this X2 Power battery which is 24F and it has a whopping 840 CCA so that was all good. The price was a little expensive but if lasts 10 years I guess it will be okay. Anyway, now my Coronet spins over like top. Before it would crank a bit and sound like it was out of breath. I tried a couple of different batteries in the car and even jumped it a few times and nothing solved the problem. Now it spins hard and fires off very quickly. I don't know who makes this battery, the brand appears to be a house brand for Batteries Plus.

The battery looks to have been made by Northstar which is now owned by Enersys I believe(Enersys makes Odyssey). That battery wasn't cheap, and I am sure its not light, but it should last a long time!

I'm sure I'm missing something but why not put in a standard (non Ford) battery and have the posts to the rear of the car? Pos will still be inside and neg outside.

It wasn't cheap and it isn't light but it sure works great. I also like the solid brass terminals. I hope it lasts a long time, it should since the car is stored in a heated garage so the battery never gets very cold.

I put one in my wifes Duster 4 years ago and one in my Dart the same time and so far they have been great batteries!

Hey Andy - what do you think of that MSD multi-relay strip? That caught my eye and I read up on it along with delayed-shutoff timer relays. I might add one to my car to run the fuel pumps. Seems like a nice packaging solution if you need multiple relays all close to one location.

I like the MSD solid state relay. I've used them in the last several cars that I've built and I'm sure I'll use them in anything I build going forward. They are great for EFI cars since the relays can be triggered with either ground or hot triggers. Most EFI systems use ground triggers while most car builders use hot triggers. I have one of these solid state relays in the back for the fuel pump and other stuff and then I have one in the front of the car for the headlights and stuff like that.

I did a short video on the back of the car that shows a little more info on the wiring: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWV8W3Pl4yg
