Read up on the Apple AirTag and see if that will work for you.

My trailer, Racecar and a few other toys all have Air Tags hidden on/in them. If you've got an iphone/ipad it couldn't be simpler.

The stated environmental low temperature range is -4, which falls short, by -25, here. I’m still going to try them. Thanks for the idea.

Not a iPhone or Apple user.

I think if someone with an apple phone steals the trailer, the Airtags will alert them a device not registered to them is close. They may not find it, but it may alert them.

I doubt that is the case or you would be getting pings all the time from ones that don't belong to you. A lady I work with has one in her purse and my phone has never alerted me of it.

Maybe because it's near her and not moving with you? Ask her to put it in your pocket and walk outside away from her purse and see what it does. Not sure how long or how far away from the owner it has to be before it alerts you of being tracked.

That is interesting, if she has one with her today I will see if I can take it on some errands I have to run and see what it does.

In the event that you are using one of these for a trailer or car things should happen pretty quick, likely before the thief knows an air tag is with it, or can find it if they do. Some friends of mine and I put air tags on our kids while we were at a crazy busy place. At one point we left the hotel and my son did not have his air tag with him, we had barely pulled away from our parking spot before it told me that I had left an item behind, so roughly 2-3 minutes from leaving the room to getting a notification that it wasn't with me. So if you set a trailers location you should receive an alert rather quickly that is has moved from its spot(unless you are with the item). I know if I am at work and I get an alert my trailer or car is moving I am going to make a phone call to the police pretty damn fast.

Being left behind is one thing since it breaks a connection with the phone designated as the owner. I'm not sure leaving a trailer somewhere would alert you as fast. I would have to guess it will need some type of way to connect to the internet to alert you. Possibly requires an apple device to alert you. So if an android person steals your trailer, you may be SOL.

She didn't bring an air tag yesterday but talking with her and a few others at work it sounds like it alerts someone pretty quick, and it may not work like needed for a trailer or car. Sounded good at first! I am glad this thread made me think about it more, I was close to buying a 4 pack to cover vehicles.

Re: Enclosed Trailer GPS with sensor - 04/28/22 01:21 PM

Not sure how you have GPS tracking with no monthly fees, since the tracker has to "call back home" to report its location.
Amazon seems to have some good systems that are reasonably priced, $40 then $7 a month.

Aren’t GPS blockers fairly cheap and common now.

If you go to that website pricing is super easy to find, just look at the item you want and pricing shows right up.

Samsung smart tags are similar to the Apple airtag. There are typically more Samsung devices around than Apple devices. My smart tags work well IMO.

After towing different trailers for over 40 years when I bought a new trailer a few years ago I insured it. It’s pretty safe at home in my driveway and I know if someone stole it I would be out money but this would help ease the pain. Now maybe one of these days I will insure the car.

When I reseal the roof seams, I’m going to stencil the last four of my SSN on the roof. I saw that work on the news along time ago, when a school trailer was found. Think about it, you describe a 28’ white trailer. That’s a big seeya’. My trailer was totaled in a hail storm, so conventional insurance is out.

I use these for various uses, both at home and work.

I would opt for the case and extended life battery. If your setup gets stolen, do you want to hope it goes near an Apple user? These have an annual airtime fee, but, use cell towers. I can attest that these will take you to within a few feet of their true location. They are vibration sensitive, will alert you once they start moving.
The question you have to ask yourself, is, for $120 a year is it worth your piece of mind?
