Herb McCandless 268@ .050 hydraulic cam spec? - 03/06/22 02:47 PM

The 268 at .050, .540 lift juice cam from the eighties was as wild as you could get. It is no longer listed and people at Comp don't remember it. Anyone have detailed specs for this cam? A friend has one in his 68 roadrunner and a couple of lobes and lifters failed. We want to replace it with an equivalent solid or hydraulic . The motor is a lowdeck 451 stroker using kb hyper pistons with the raised area for quench.
The heads are from McCandless as well, the iron 452 heads he used to sell with just a 70 degree plunge cut and 2.14 x 1.81 valves. This motor pushed a FULL WEIGHT 68 roadrunner to 11.27 with closed exhaust so it sure did punch above its weight!
So, looking for lsa, duration at . 100, .200, etc to try and match this cam and maintain or increase hp.

call Bullet Cams. I bet if you sent it to them they could duplicate it. Birdtracker

I’m pretty sure it was just a 21-320-4.

Lobe number 5196, single pattern on a 108.

There should be some numbers on the old cam when you take it out.

I’m pretty sure I saw someone selling one of these over on fabo.

Edit- I was wrong....... the one for sale over on fabo is the next smaller one........260@.050

Thanks , Bird, Dwayne. I used that cam in my Dart with a 475 cube motor, 440-c heads bowl port only, 12/1 compression, 750 methanol carb, 3180 lbs. Best of 10.10 at 131 mph. It impressed me as being pretty good. I look back and that is where i should have stayed!

Dwayne,
With an 850, 10.8 compression, 4600 stall, think it would pick up with a bit more cam? I am thinking something like the mopar . 590 grind on a 108.

Those KB hyper pistons are great pistons. But be careful if this is a race motor. I would not rev over 6500 rpm, remember they are cast pistons and cast pistons don't like a lot of rpm.

I found an older post about it, maybe this will help....

Always wanted to try that one sometime, but ended up going the street roller route on everything.

Might have a good application for it in the future so wanted to reply to this to make it easier to find/search my own posts.
