Denso alternator, 90amp - 02/19/22 04:44 PM

Has anyone here used TSP's ES1004 , 90amp denso alternator? Comes w/large v belt pulley, 1wire hook up and fairly compact dimensions. $116 on amazon. Seems like a good deal. Detailwise it's exactly what I need. Just looking for feedback from actual users. Thanks, Bill

I've never used that particular part number but I do sell a kit that mounts a Denso 90A alternator on big block engines. The kit I sell works with the 90A alternator that was used by Toyota for the Land Cruiser model.

Nicely designed kit Andy, but I am using a motor plate and will have to mount the alternator lower on the same side of the engine. Thanks for posting about your kit. I am mostly concerned with the quality/performance of the TSP alternators as I had never heard of them before. I saw them first in a Star Performance Parts catalog which seems geared to the circle track crowd. Thanks, Bill

Not that exact p#, but I did a Denso swap a couple of years ago and I’m super happy with it. Volt guage is now locked between 12.5 and 13.8 at ALL times. I run my water pump and low speed fan after every run to get to 150 without charging between rounds and never have any issues.
I looked at Andy’s kit. It looks great by the way. Ultimately, all I had to do was cut my existing adjustment bracket, lengthen the piece (find some simple flat bar that was the exact dimension of the bracket) and re-angle the bolt-slot section. Location and main bracket are unaltered. 2nd picture is the stock bracket and my template to what I made it into. Been solid for a few years now.

Does this solve the dreaded low voltage at idle issues for cars with accessories like EFI?

I was hoping to get feedback from someone who has used this specific alternator in a race only environment. Quality and performance related to it's description. I have no street equipment aside from one tailight. This is advertised as a 90amp max output. This would fill my needs perfectly if it performs as described. If I were going to use it on the street, I would be looking for a 120amp unit. That would help prevent the unit from running hot and burning itself up. Idle output and mounting is not the issue. Street cars need good low rpm output, they spend a lot more time there. Thanks, Bill

I have a 60 amp Denso on my Challenger with a Sniper. It doesn't show any appreciable drop in gear at idle.

Think about what these alternators are used on and it will all make sense. The average usage for a 60 amp Denso alternator is a Toyota Camry that has dual cooling fans,EFI,audio system, power windows and other accessories and they have zero issues with low voltage at idle.. I use a 60 amp Toyota pick-up alternator on my Savoy for about 9 years now and it finally quit last summer. I replaced it with a fresh Denso reman and back to charging 14.3 volts at 1100 rpm's .

Any post about this topic needs to state the actual pulley ratio being used and the exact idle RPM.
This is such a big factor, any statement is worthless without it. twocents
200 rpm can make a big difference (7"/2" ratio 800-1000 engine RPM).

I am using the factory pulleys on the crank and water pump, and the standard pulley on the alt that was used on the toyota pickup.

66er, thanks, that's what I was looking for. Someone who has used this actual product and wether or not they were satisfied with it's quality. Thanks again, Bill
