New style plastic windage tray

You guys putting these on dry or using sealant on them ? and I think they need some holes drill in it. for drain back ?

I mudded in some RTV into where the timing cover meets the block and the rear main seal holder, let dry/setup. Other than that, it went on dry

i'm running one but decided to open the slots up a bit more, well a lot more actually. I think they need some kind of sealant on them as mine weeped oil at the start but i mickey moused a repair for that.

I've had one on my Hemi for 4 years now. I opened the slots some, too. Has worked fine, so far. I used Hylomar on the gaskets.

They have been out for many years, and work just fine. I've had the same one for almost 10 years now.

I removed mine and hung it on the wall and it never leaks now

I’ve been running one for years, no issues. Put it in dry, no leaks. Resizable also, just clean with soap and water, I’ve done it. Only thing I did was cut some out of clearance for my homemade pickup tube that I’ve used for years, never opened any holes up. I do know they only work with flat rail oil pans, if not they will leak.

I am using it on a repop 6 qt pan. Slathered it with Hylomar and it is good. Easy to pull off too, if I ever need to.

I would not use silicon except a small dab on the corners for the timing cover to block and rear main seal housing to block. Install dry or better yet a thin film of oil on the raised seal. Those that use Hylomar have it figured out. I would not drill any additional holes. Avoid silicon, or anything that cures rigid. You'll regret the choice to use silicon, especially Right Stuff, on the day you need to remove the windage tray. It'll require dynomite to remove.

Yeah, let it dry and drill if no another option.

mine is currently not leaking ( a first in a long while) and I put it on dry. I also did not drill any additional holes. Birdtracker

There are two styles out there; one from Jegs that only works with rigid rail pans, and one from Summit that will work with all pans, including the factory stamped steel ones. I actually just ordered the Summit style. They recommend RTV applied sparingly at the two gaps at the front and rear, struck down and allowed to cure, and the tray installed DRY. Take your time and clean the mating surface thoroughly (scrape, brakleen, etc). I wouldn’t try to torque the bolts to the factory number.

I kept asking , why would you put silicone or any type of sealant on a rubber o-ring molded type gasket ?

Anyways this didn’t work on my 402 Oil Pan many moons ago

The Summit Racing doesn’t look any different then the other two that Jegs has listed ?


I still run the factory windage tray , two superformance gaskets dry , and my 402 Oil Pan has been leak free for years

I chicken out and put two superformance gaskets on dry. This car is a pain to pull the pan.. I don't need no leaks. it is a summit brand

I just assumed everyone is selling the same one. I've used two from Summit Racing, purchased years apart, and the've been used on the Mancini Racing stock style 6 quart repro pan (has the stiffening dimples between bolt holes) with no leaks. Installed it like you mention

It’s possible that they are, I’ll see if there is any indication of who made the summit one on the packaging. There seem to be more complaints about the Jegs piece so I didn’t question it, but people are funny so who knows.
