Cam Suggestions for 383/431 Stroker - 03/16/21 02:24 PM

Any suggestions on a hydraulic flat tappet cam for a 383/431 stroker with fuel injection? Currently the car has a tired 440 with a FiTech TB system, and wants me to build his original 383 to put back in the Charger and use the 440 for a future E-body project. I'm thinking something with a 112 LSA to be EFI friendly, however open to suggestions.

Thanks
Darren

Probably something in the 230's @ 050. The 112 LCA would help keep the vacuum up which makes the system a little easier to tune and drive.

Check out the hyd flat tappet cam that I used in this cam test. That cam might be a little too aggressive for a daily driver but it sure worked great in my low deck stroker. http://www.moparts.org/Tech/Archive/bb/Lobe.html

Of course if I was building an engine today and I wanted a cam I'd call Dwayne and have him spec me a cam and spring combo.

If you're not fixed on TB, you can use a much bigger cam.

Thanks everyone. I agree a roller would be better, however this car will have exhaust manifolds and he wants his EFI on the new engine. Trying to decide if I can get an Edelbrock RPM intake under the stock hood with the stock air cleaner, but looks like it may not fit.

I know this is a SFT cam. But a HYD cam in this range would work nice I would think. This is the cam DP spec'd for my build for my intended use [Linked Image]

Very nice. One thing that needs to be kept in mind is that it needs to have enough vacuum for power brakes.

The idle speed in gear will have a lot to do with how much vacuum the motor will have at a given RPM, idling at 800 RPM in gear will have less vacuum than idling at 1000 RPM in gear, been there done that shruggy
My old pump gas Duster had a decent (260@.050 intake and 266@.050 on the exhaust) solid roller camshaft in it ground on a 108 LSA installed at 107 degrees in the intake lobes, it would idle at 4.0 to 4.5 inches of vacuum at 850 RPM in gear and have right at 10.0 inches at 1000 RPM in gear shruggy It was not as nasty sounding idling at 850 RPM as it was at 1000 RPM shruggy
It was really raspy sounding at 1700 RPM in gear driving with light part throttle with around 16.0 inches of vacuum whiney shruggy

My 71 Bee has factory power brakes

383/432 Stroker Auto

I run the Comp XE275 HL
E Street 75cc Heads - 10.5 Compression

12"-13" of vacuum at 700 Rpms Idle

Zero issues

Motor would idle at 500 Rpms if i wanted

800 AVS-2 is flawless off idle - I love this carb

Thanks for the feedback. How do you like your 383 stroker combo? Any dyno numbers?
