Have some questions about upper valve train oiling and rockers. Building a 440 in the upper 500 to 600 hp range. Using trickflow 240 heads, RAS rockers and hyd roller cam setup. The questions I have are (1) Would oiling through the push rods be desirable? (2) What would be better, ball/ball or ball/cup push rods. If ball/cup, is a 5/16 cup ok? Looks as if 3/8 push rod with 5/16 ends is what is available. Thanks.

I ran stock rocker oiling on my 512 street build. Using 240 TF heads RAS 1.6 rockers with a SFT Cam. Matt Hensley bushed the lifter bores and did all my block machine work and assembly. I sent Mike at B3 my heads and rockers. Had him do his rocker arm geometry correction and ran Ball Ball push rods

On my dyno engines I started to use pushrod oiling for everything since it solved some various pushrod bluing issues I had seen. But it does require sorting out some stuff and it does lower oil pressure a bit. You shouldn't need it for your deal but it was me I'd probably add pushrod oiling if the parts were available. I don't think you'll find hyd roller lifters that provide pushrod oiling but you can look. Typically the hyd flat tappet and hyd roller lifters aren't designed to send oil up the pushrod.

I have stock and pushrod oiling, 512cid street car over 11k miles on it

Not all rockers are suitable for being solely pushrod oiled.

Very true, I kept both for 2 reasons, 1 for the pushrod ends & also to keep some extra oil flow cooling the valve springs, whether it helped or not I do not know, but with all the oiling I have it has to have an HV pump with a adjustable bypass valve, also run the 1970 440,Hemi pan with a total of 7 qts 20/50. the 10/30 just would not cut it in the heat down here,, as you know loose lifter bores ect ect, . hope all is well with you Dwayne !!! other than HELL freeeezzing over all is good down here in Tx

I wouldn't convert the rocker arms to use pushrod oiling, I do have the #4 cam journal grooved (same width as the diameter of the oil hole in the cam and around .030 deep wrench scope) on the camshaft to provide full time oiling to the rocker arms up twocents
Are your RAS rocker arms a set of original ductile iron bushed rockers bushed and blueprinted or are they the RAS brand stainless steel rocker arms?
Either way as long as they are not needle roller rockers on the shafts you will not need to restrict the oiling to the rockers. If they are needle bearings on the shaft stick a .030 to .050 I.D. oil restrictor to the shafts up
I use a #6 or #8 brass set screw and drill and tap the oil passage in the block or in the heads for which ever one you use and drill it to the size you want up wrench

They are the stainless bushed rockers. No needle bearings.

Seems like more are using the ball/ball pushrods than the ball/cup. Any advantages with the ball/ball pushrods. Seems the cup style would be better for adjuster screw tip lubrication but maybe it does not matter.
