Dragracing..ESPN's red-headed stepchild

Dragracing..ESPN's red-headed stepchild - 03/29/09 01:19 AM

Just got done watching ESPN's so-called qualifying coverage. First they go late covering some lousy college hockey game, then rush through qualifying with no prostock coverage, then rush to some soccer game in BFE. Why waste my time, why do they even bother? Dave

Maek it worst is there is no consistent time when they show. It seems like sport fishing or watching grass grow get's priority

Re: Dragracing..ESPN's red-headed stepchild - 03/29/09 01:59 AM

They did the same thing with the ama supercross and motocross racing. Chopped the shows short with women's basketball, ran them at different times each week or didn't air them at all! People bombarded them with complaints and when the contract was up they dropped it.

The supercross races sell out the football stadiums they race in so you can't tell me it's not popular. The only people watching women's basketball are the family members of the players.

I think somebody over there doesn't like motorsports very much. I bet that drag racing will get dropped eventually and it will end up on Speed or someplace else.

I sent mine in too. I understand that sometimes an event will run late, but I dont understand why they cut the NHRA event off. I enjoyed the 20 minutes of Hockey while I patiently waited for the race.

Re: Dragracing..ESPN's red-headed stepchild - 03/29/09 03:03 AM

20 min of hockey fine, why not expose the El Salvadorian soccer fans to 20 min of racing? If ESPN was keeping these time frames like doctor appointments we might not see coverage of the event until the following friday!

Re: Dragracing..ESPN's red-headed stepchild - 03/29/09 03:18 AM

Unfortunately, and it pains me to say this because I have been racing since 1964, it is getting tougher and tougher for me to care.

I really have a problem in watching NHRA racing on TV, or even in person for that matter. The cars look alike, they run alike, and the drivers are all twenty something movie star look-a-likes who spend all their time rattling off their sponsors. Pro racing has no "character" anymore, and to me is boring. There is more effort on marketing than there is on racing.

I'd rather watch the March Meet on 1320 TV to get a fuel fix, or watch Pinks All Out (not that stupid regular Pinks).

I gave up a while ago on that.
I cant take that MORON PAGE and it is actually a blessing to only listen to his crap for the 30 seconds or less of prostock coverage.
No number of emails will do the trick.
They are to stupid and care less.

I can see not cutting away from the hockey game, its national championship time..but soccer without a doubt the lamest sport ever created, they could have showed all the nhra qualifying first, they are going to rebroadcast the qualifying at 1 p.m. today!!!!

From NHRA.com

ESPN2's coverage of qualifying from the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston, whch was shortened Saturday night due to the network's live coverage of NCAA hockey, will re-air in its entire original length Sunday at 1 p.m. Eastern.

Re: Dragracing..ESPN's red-headed stepchild - 03/29/09 02:02 PM

Between the poor coverage, Paul Page and being preempted, I have all but quit watching ESPN2 and ESPN. While I did send them my concerns, part of the blame is on the NHRA for their focus us the noisy leaking nitro cars. I would rather watch the super classes than fuel cars.

The NHRA is really missing the boat by not highlighting the ProMod cars.

I would love to see NHRA on a real car oriented network that would show more racing content and less filler crap.

not on the west coast schedule cheerleading and NCAA womens special on 2, pba bowling and a dog show on ESPN regular. I gave up long ago and act as if it were 10 years ago when you had nothing about qualifing on tv.....just like today.

...and I'm glad promod is not a regular class. Just another mini fuel car and we have enough of those already.

Re: Dragracing..ESPN's red-headed stepchild - 03/29/09 04:35 PM

I am not even sure the NHRA coverage qualifies for red headed step child status. I dont even bother anymore, I am so sick and tired of hearing about Force and his entourage and family.

Re: Dragracing..ESPN's red-headed stepchild - 03/29/09 06:56 PM

For me the fuel cars are just a ohh look at that, prostock the cars are getting hard to tell apart. And with so many racers in different classes let see some stories on them that the average guy can relate to. I like John Force but come on already.

What the he11 did we see different today than we did
yesterday... a couple of PS cars and a few PSB... I
think that was it.... ESPN is getting real bad with
drag racing .... and its getting real old

Never understood what dog shows & spelling bees were doing on a sports channel.

Re: Dragracing..ESPN's red-headed stepchild - 03/29/09 08:22 PM

it's not really espn's fault as it is nhra's fault. that is the 2nd rate deal that nhra negotiated with espn. nhra doesn't want to spend more money on securing the air time. just my you notice that nascar or the busch series type of racing gets their secured air time?
Posted By: 70AARcuda

Re: Dragracing..ESPN's red-headed stepchild - 03/29/09 08:28 PM

espn pays nascar to show race..

nhra pays espn to show race..

that is the difference...

I only watch Prostock and it really ticks me off when they interview top fuel or funny jockeys in a small window while the prostocks are running
