Advance curve in a Hemi Distributor - 06/23/20 02:40 PM
Using a MSD distributor in a 433 Hemi, Stock crossram, small roller cam, mostly street 4 speed car. What would be a good advance curve and timing for this application. Lots of different choices with the MSD distributor. TIA

I WOULD START WITH ABOUT 15 INITIAL AND 32 TOTAL ALL IN ABOUT 2000 RPM

My Hemi is locked out at 34 and starts fine. It would love more for cruising but 34 is the most it wants WOT. You would need vacuum advance or new programmable MSD to pull timing as rpm's increase.

My buddy’s 528 Barton Hemi was recommended at 30 total. We ran the old iron engine at 37, seemed to like it the best. Very light spring for start up then full at 800. The more advance the better the grunt and responsive down low

I'd happily talk to you about jetting but we know how that goes.

On the dyno during break-in, my 540 liked 31* total. And I like as much initial as it will take until it starts to kick against the starter. The bumpier the idle, the more initial it likes. Right now, I think it is 25* initial and all in by 1,800.

My 575" hemi likes 34°. I have it locked out and no trouble w/ starting. Idles better locked out too.
