At the inaugural Mats I took my '68 RR and on the first time run it broke the trans bad, spiral crack around the case so I helped friends race and was pitted across from our eventual Challenger which was for sale, on Sunday I got tired of looking at that car and the wife and I went over and talked to the owner and bought the car, we picked it up in Carson City 2 weeks later and have owned it ever since as it has been a great car and many improvements made to it since then, still have the RR to. We went to every Mats after that till 2013 and one a couple run for the money races back then or runner up'ed. In 2006 or '07 we were in the final twice as they botched it pretty bad and ended up getting winner money. Was planning on going with the RR this year. Time will tell if we can make the rescheduled race but I do hope so!

The car, red 1968 Dart, in the other lane showing is a friend of mine and his wife car, John and Jenifer Galambos.
We, them and me, have attended a lot of the MATS races, they have spent more than one race weekend in a tent and sleeping bags next to their cars at those races, she use to race her nice 1968 Charger R/T while he drove their Dart. That was their plan for a long time, she would drive her Charger to the races and race it and drive it home to SO.CA.while he drove their truck with their open trailer with the race Dart on it. Something broke on the Charger at one of the MATS races and that ended them racing both cars out of town. he had to miss work to make two trips to get both cars home.
They have two older gas burning Dodge pickups trucks and two enclosed trailer now to go to the races with but they have move back east to Georgia for his work.
I hope you can get the videos to work luck

I’ve lost most of my MaTS picts over the years.... one of the joys of “technology” over printed photos I guess. This was in the staging lanes after we got the W8 mill in place the summer before. The yellow Duster beside me was my cousins ride that my dad built quite a bit of. He’d sold it and the new owners made the trek from Wyoming to race.

I’ve kind of lost track of which and how many MaTS I’ve attended. I know I’ve missed a bunch of them. 2012 was bittersweet. I drove my Mirada in the gate and left it in the swap area where it was to be put on a trailer and delivered to its new owner. 2016 we skipped as we decided to chase the Hot Rod Heritage Series (finished 3rd). 2018 we broke the tangs on the pump gear in our 727 from “L” first round Sunday am after the burnout. 2019 we showed up after basically wrecking the car three weeks prior. Put our old iron headed high 10 combo in and runner upped in pro class. I attribute that thrash to me parking the car and pretty much not caring about it for many months. Lil engine and wrong converter is a time slip printing machine and we hit 2020 full steam ahead..... but look at us now.

Cab your friends John and Jen are really great people. You won’t find anyone nicer than those two.

I was REALLY looking forward to MaTS this year. Hopefully we’ll find normal again and we’ll be able to have it happen. Have met a ton of great people and have had fun times there.

Re: MaTS Throughout The Years - 03/23/20 05:54 PM

I have been to everyone since its inception but one, even when we lived in Nebraska and DC. I have not always had a car of my own but I have always been there spending money and supporting who and how I can. I have raced my Duster, Barracudas, Stratus and ouor family trickster the dragster. I have been fortunate enough to take home some money more often than not. Heck I even brought my Duster from Nebraska and came home without it. But more important I have met many great racers and made some great friends at this race. I have always seen it as more of a fun event than anything else honestly. Hopefully we can make this years make up date and I am hoping this race continues for many years.
