All it takes is support and cars in the lanes. 75-80, Capitol - can't count on these places always being there. Guys need to show up and race.

I should be there more often this season since my home track Capitol will not be open.

That’s a lot of my money if that is a weekly bracket program for the super class. Hopefully they get over 64 cars so they are at least racing for 2000.00.

$85 and $65 just to enter? then the $50 buy back? Might just sell mine before it’s even done. That ratio of enter to win is very high. 32 x 85 min. is $2720 and the payout is $1000+ change. What about spectator-concession-pit pal money?
A $250 bill just to get there + tires gas food and people wonder why no one shows up. Kinda like those top sportsman $100,000 cars running for $2000 to win. It’s like the dude holding a burning $100 bill saying if this is ok with you then you can have a race car.!

Actually using an inflation calculator with a comparison from 1990 (the only year I signed up for points with the occasional win), the ratio of entry to payout is better than 1990.

I'm also not opposed to the track making some good money too.....it's been known as an incentive to staying open.

They haven't raised the entry for awhile now so figured something was going to change. They did cut the Street/Sportsman purse in half last yr compared to years past. But to increase the entry that much AND get rid of 3rd loser $$, is a bit much IMO. Here's the entry/payout from 2019. If you do the math for TOTAL payout for a class, there's really only 1 person coming out further ahead and it's not the racer. If that's what they have to do to stay open I guess that's what they have to do. I think it will hurt the budget racers who are regulars and MAYBE attract some of the guys chasing larger payouts. Hope it works out for them, but I won't be participating in those classes at that price.

A racetrack is a business, it's not a damn charity or community playground. The people operating these tracks could be doing things with their money that makes a lot more sense. Most people have no clue what it takes. And they think track promoters are making big money. Some of you need to do a Stocker or a Super Gas car and go NHRA racing if you think your local track is taking advantage of you. Or load up, hit the road and chase the big money races.

I swear some of you need to sell that money pit, go buy a hot rod and some lawn chairs and go sit in a parking lot on Saturday nights listening to '50s music.

I will say kudos to Mason for even listing that information. I looked around on other nearby tracks and can't really find anything on their "weekly" programs as far as entry and payouts.

Hey, I'm with you on this one. I think what Mason-Dixon's offering is a pretty good deal compared to what most tracks in this area are offering(some won't even commit to a written payout with a realistic expected field)
Yes, the entry is higher than most, but the payout more than makes up for it......that. and actually getting paid what was posted has never been a problem at Mason-Dixon as far as I've ever known.....can't say the same thing about another nearby track.

Elmer runs a nice place. And I think he's there for the long haul. Been there since '88.

I think Capitol was paying more money guaranteed. Where's Capitol now? Where's Frederick? Times have changed. It's not the 1990s anymore.

Nobody and I said nobody in their right mind pays the fees NHRA charges to run national events. The money is piss poor and all the super classes are is field fillers and they run you as they please. Even class Racing is bracket racing 90% of the time. Ego trip time. Payouts are pathetic

All true. But guys are lined up to get in and can't if they haven't run 7 or 8 points meets. I did it for years and would be doing it now if I had the budget. We're all sick in the head.

Re: Mason Dixon Dragway 2020 - 02/28/20 12:55 PM

Wow, with the car counts down and the entry fees up it sure doesn't pay to run local brackets like it used too. I can just imagine what the Super ET car counts are going to look like in the middle of the summer with the heat, 85 dollar entry fees and a chance to win $1000.... whistling

I remember not too long ago paying 100 to run Maples 10K footbrake race lol.

Also remember winning 1000+ dollar races in the 90's for 30-40 entry fees, race fuel was 4.00 a gallon and the gas you put in the vehicle was around a dollar.

I used to brag about racing for free and actually having to pay taxes on some of the earnings lol....Not anymore.
