SV1 carbs

SV1 carbs - 02/09/20 04:39 PM

I have been running a pair of 1800 CFM SV1 carbs for 10 years. Not being a regular at the track prolongs the tuning process. Maybe if I stayed at one boost level and worked it out I may have better results. I have been low 9's @ almost 150MPH and found my IAT's are at their ceiling and without lowering the the IAT I can't go much faster. I spoke with Dom at length and approached Patrick for a quote on a pair of Doms and if he would take my SV1s in trade which he does NOT.
He is offering a power booster as he calls it that should held with the lean spike at the hit of the throttle. At this point I have nothing to loose and try them and see what happens. I have too much time and money invested in this set up and just need to be certain there are no other options.
Dom,I am not trying to diss you in any way shape or form!!! I would love to do a back to back test after installing the latest idea from Pat................
How many of you have owned and sold SV1 carbs?? How far did you go trying to tune them?? I see many that will do a jet change and a bleed change and if that don't work they just get something else............

I owned one for about 2 years. I liked the design a lot. I got mine to idle better than any other carb. It also went down the road really nice. I like how smooth it was compared to a progressive 4 barrel. The 4 barrels are kinda notchy where the secondaries open and an SV1 is just super smooth. I also liked the fact, most of the tuning was done from the front of the carb. I think if I had an engine with a stronger signal it would have worked. I had it on my aluminum Hemi which had horrible out of round cylinder bores. My new cast iron one, I had to go up 5 jet sizes to get it all the fuel it wants as those bores were nearly perfectly round before honing.. I bet I would have better luck now with one.

Mine started as an older one, and I had it updated to the latest version. It really didn't help except for the tuning was more standardized.

I was making my own jets on the lathe I have. Patrick was not good at explaining which ways to go. I tried a lot of different things, it was drivable, but wasn't race ready.....I think I could get one to work....But as far as your manifold temps, I would yous a N2O plate and spray it with Meth.

Mine on the aluminum Hemi...

Dumb question, how would a pair of Dominators lower your manifold temps? Fuel is fuel, and when you pressurize it, you can only go so far based on the heat.....What about more efficient rotor design?

I have not been able to find a definitive graph as to how much the IAT will drop. Nitrous will lower IAT by over 100 *,do you have and figures on meth??

Pat wants me to try these....................

That's for a weak booster signal as it creates more surface area to pull from......My AFR wasn't bad, just not responsive....At WOT, that probably won't make any difference is my guess. Might have helped on mine as it acted lazy during transition. Now with a 4 barrel Dom, my 60fts are 1.35 spinning the tires still. Obviously a lot less area uncovered with a four barrel compared to an SV1....

Most likley the last attempt befor getting THUMPED...............
My main issue is a lean spike at the hit, after the rpm IS UP THEY ARE GREAT !

Hey no offense taken and props to you for your diligence at not giving up but I still believe 2-1050's would wake that beast up but try what Patrick said and see how it goes.....

Funny when I asked if he would take the SV1's in trade these boosters appeared smoke

As you know your on speed dial whistling

I would put a pump cam in that gives you a squirter shot over a longer throttle range.....Or a bigger squirter. Since mine were like .067 already for my SV1, drill them out .005" at a time would be my next attempt....I keep forgetting yours is blown and that must really want a big fuel shot at the hit....Drill the squirters out and hope a 50cc pump shot is enough...Raise the fuel pressure?

Are you running the new air lock rotors from BDS?

Sorry, I skipped over the part where I went to put a pair of cheater plates on and with the 1 inch spacer the throttle blade hit the cross bar on the plate at 1/3 throttle. If I stay with the SV1 carbs I will need a perimeter plate to use nitrous as an intercooler,,,,,,,,,,or switch to E85. I have the cheater system already blush

And no updated rotors. The old style stage 3 with strips.
