Tach drive distributor - 12/16/19 02:47 PM

Hey guys recently got a tach drive distributor for a Moparts member here. Looking for a new pick-up, cap & rotor set. Does it use a normal pick-up, hoping someone here will know. Also would like to get a HEI style terminal cap for it. Any input would be great. Cap & rotor look to be the same as the dual-point, again no positive there???
Thank you,
Ken Michalik

Standard mopar pickup will work. The pickup rotor should have a flat ground on the diameter for the plastic rotor to fit, index on. That is the key difference in the rotor, a flat instead of a groove for indexing. Accel sells a kit for the cap and rotor for old performance/ race distributor.

Most I have seen are steel and I think everything is the same as the other Prestolite distributors. However there are some aluminum ones out there and I know they use a different tach cable. I don't know what else might be different about them.

My milage varied. I have clear memories of taking the cable to a speedometer shop to have the end replaced on the cable. In your experience was there anything else that was different (or not) between the two flavors of these distributors?

Pretty sure my later aluminum style uses all the same parts as the older cast units. Just lighter overall, the tang on the cable I was told is a .120". If anyone knows for sure or has a spare cable for sale let me know. Need the female square end on the tach side as its a Moroso tach. Thanks for all the input
See ya, Ken Michalik

The tach drive distributors that I used were Direct Connection/MoPar Performance electronic ignition types. Only difference was the weight.

Not sure if posts from another site are permitted...but here goes.

Read post #10. Maybe it explains the difference of the cable ends.?.?
