Dominator with a dual plane intake

Dominator with a dual plane intake - 09/17/19 01:32 AM

Anyone run an rpm or Indy 440 2d intake with a Wilson or morose adapter and quality 1050 dominator? 493 pump gas mostly street car 590ish hp roller. Looking for advice since I am limited on hood space. Have a victor 440 as well that I could run but car mostly will see street use. Thanks

Me....and my little opinion, if your not going to tune it to the Nth degree, a 4150 is a better option....I can honestly say, I have never run a Dominator with a dual plane which adds to the difficulty of tuning...What is your gearing and convertor stall? Stall being the more important of the two...

4200 per Lenny at ultimate. 4.10 gear, 28” tire in b body. It’s fresh so haven’t driven the car yet, just trying to figure out my best option. Thanks👍🏻

So the dual plane is for hood clearance?

Not really, it’s just what I have right now for intakes, the rpm and the victor. Six pack hood on car but I plan on running a dominator

I would call Dominic of Thumper Carbs and get his opinion. He builds great carbs for us Mopar people. I have two of them so far....The dual plan may or may not work and I was actually looking at the Vanke intake Indy offers for my Hemi for hood clearance. I would mill the whole divider out though.....

I ran both Indy intakes (open and dual plane) on the dyno when I broke in my 540 Hemi. Based on my wedge experience, the only reason that I tried the dual plane was because Indy said it would be the best choice on the street. They were right, the dual plane picked up a ton of torque across the band and only gave up 11hp up top. I was shocked!

When I have ran dual planes on my 440+ inch wedges, they were done by 5,000rpm, leaving a bunch of power on the table. The only exception being the 6bbl intake.

And my 1050 Dominator that Dominic did the metering blocks on runs and drives at least as good as any 4150 I have ever ran. It's all in the tune, not whether it is a 4150 or a 4500. Properly size the carb for the engine and get a good tune in it. And Dom is the man for the tune.

If you have the Dominator it can certainly be made to run fine, If you have to buy from scratch I would invest in a quality 4150 instead. A larger 4150 with large annulars would be my suggestion, especially with a dual plane. You might see up to a tenth at the track, maybe nothing.

If you want to run a Dominator carb then sell the two intakes you have and buy an intake that is designed for a Dominator.

I agree with you Andy, was just confirming what my original thoughts were. You have any intakes on the shelf you want to sell?? And thanks

By the time you put a 4500 adapter on the DP it will be as tall as a single plane so the "hood clearance" point is moot.

FST has a 1050 cfm in the 4150 series if you're looking to stay that big.

Put a 750 size in that carb on my Duster and it's been a beast straight out of the box.

I run the Indy dual plane intake on my 493 in my 63 and its a pump gas street car. But I run an 850 DP on mine and I like it a lot. Great street manners and has run 10.70's through the full exh on pump. Ron

I have a .030 over 440 with Indy SR heads and a ported indy 2d intake and a 4150 quick fuel 1050 carb with annular boosters. A few months ago I converted a 3 circuit Dominator to a 2 circuit then bolted it to my 440 using an adapter. What a huge difference in throttle response with the Dominator! I wish I had the hood clearance to run the Dominator on the street and see how it really works. When I whack the throttle on the Dominator the engine acts like it wants to jump out of the engine compartment compared to the 4150 carb.
