TOWING WITH A DOLLY

TOWING WITH A DOLLY - 09/11/19 01:07 AM

Have a cracked axle tube on my trailer. Season is almost at an end. I'll want to disassembly both axles and check then out. Any thoughts on towing a spooled car with a dolly? I know the driveshaft pop.

Can you put it on the dolly back wards? Lock the wheel like the tow truck drivers do. How far of a tow?

My input isn't worth much, but it sounds worse than towing a non-spooled car with a dolly at a minimum.

If you have a UHaul near you a trailer is about $60 for the day, not a bad deal and they're decent trailers.

62.00 , but reserve it.
They pull like a dream , but won' t take a car much longer than 125 " wheel base.
I had to use one last weekend , and will again until I either buy or build another.
I would not use a dolly , and I considered trying to back on to one , but the trailer isn't that much more money.

Don't put it on backwards, the front end will still sway a bit, and at speed, it's scary.

Rear tires may be too wide anyway.

Turn too sharp and dent a fender.

Can't back up.

Rent/borrow a trailer.

We tow with a dolly every week. I wouldn't try towing a drag car with a dolly. The problems with trying it with the car on the dolly backwards has been covered already. The problem with towing with the car forward is that the spool will resist turning and put excessive strain on the straps.

Absolutely rent a trailer.

Last year I rented a U-Haul trailer for a run from Tulsa to Omaha. I was really surprised at how well it towed, loaded or empty.

Never thought Uhaul. Got 1 2 blocks from the shop. Much better idea.
