Sounds like the shock is set up for 12"springs. Look the shock part number up and see. Maybe a weak spring was used to store more energy during the rebound process. What is the spring rate? What is the car weight? Weight distribution front to rear?

Is that 12" number with the seat screwed all the way down? Pull the shock to full extension and measure center to center on the ends. If it's about 17" it should have a 12" spring. Someone may have had a real soft 14" spring on there. Next step is to find out what the weights are on the car - along with power levels, gearing, etc. - to get the right spring to put back on it. Or at least a good baseline to start with

Its all about spring rate a 14"/ 90 lbs spring compressed to 12 " is capable supporting 180lbs on a 12" shock Fully extended. Either they didn't have the proper length spring of proper rate spring to accommodate the weight of the car. Give us some info such as total weight and rear weight , Shock location ( relative to the ale housing) and if not me someone will advise the proper rat spring to use. On a drag only car the spring only needs to be able to support the static weight at the e rear end of the car

The long shocks (15.25"-16" @ ride height) use a 14" spring. You need to check shock mounts and/or shocks C-C @ ride height to know what's going on.
