Just bought this Autometer Prostock Tach

Just bought this Autometer Prostock Tach - 12/08/18 07:33 PM

And I thought at this price it would have the burnout feature on it.
It has 4 gear change set points and max rev. and recall.
Anyway to use 1st gear as burnout and go from there?
Or will it not work. I do have the blue wire hooked up to my lineloc wire.

Never used that tach before. In fact I didn't know anything about it, but I really like the gear change set point feature. Sounds like a winner to me.

Theres another model which is almost the same but has the burnout setting as well.
I didnt know this model has no provision for burnout set pount.
Just want to see if I can set shift point #1 as burn out setting and then use #2,3, 4 as gear change.

I use to race a hemi Cuda 4 speed car along with a lot of other 4 speed cars a long time ago, I was told back then by several factory sponsored Mopar SS racers to start the burn out in 2 or 3rd gear, depending on the rear gear ratio and tire heights work With 4.10 and a 29 inch tall tire 2nd gear work okay, 3rd would have got the tires hotter quicker up scope I would use the line lock and let the clutch out around 5000 RPM and try to keep the RPM above 5000 and under 6500 RPM during the burn out up

Cab the tach reads rpm, so maybe 1st gear can be used as burnout.
Maybe it might not work using the blue wire to activate the gear changes.

Try doing the burn out in first gear and see how long it takes to start to get the tires to smoke and then on the next run try starting 2nd or 3rd and see how long the time differences are scope
Most of us learn best by doing up

I have a Autometer tach with the same features , bought it years ago and don't know if it was named PRO Stock tach or not. From what I remember you set each shift point 1-2 2-3 3-4 . If you did use the first set point for burn out then the next could be set for the 1-2 shift and so on. I do the 1-2 shift when the front wheels come down. I myself never found that different shift points helped my car once passed the 2nd gear change. Do 2nd gear burn outs, launch about 4600 depending on the track and shift at 6800. Seems to be a happy RPM for my engine. Runs 10.30 at 130 mph consistently.

Theres like 2 different models, the tach which has the burnout feature is called Autometer playback tach. They look identical.
The Prostock tach just doesn't have the burnout feature which I really wanted. Guess I could try setting #1 set point to 6700 and see if the shift light comes on.

Then go from there. I usually shift my little small block at 7600 1st gear and 7800 on 2nd and 3rd gear.

I'll find out soon enough, if it works.

Call Summit. They usually take stuff back, no questions asked. Swap for what you wanted.

I cant, I bought it used and it was just mounted and wired.
I didnt realize it didnt have the burnout feature till I programmed it.
I was searching and searching till I pulled out the directions and didnt see the feature available.
Oh well. I'll wait till another one comes available and then sell this one

I've never used a burnout limiter. Ever. When I was the only stick guy at the track.

If you are running a clutchless box, and you want to go through the box in the burnout that's one thing.

I don't even do burn outs in third. I isn't worth it.

I assume your running a mopar trans.. does
it have 4 positions on the tack.. if it does you
should be able to do what you want.. but
if it has only 3 your sorta screwed

Re: Just bought this Autometer Prostock Tach - 12/10/18 05:52 AM

Is it supposed to provide an rpm limiter for the burnout and just shift lites for the shift?

Re: Just bought this Autometer Prostock Tach - 12/10/18 10:09 PM

Autometer says it wont work for burnout.
It goes by rpm drop.
After burnout, the engine goes to idle which will confuse the computer.
I'm out of luck.
Ge did say you can try playing with it at the track
