Vic 340 build - 11/22/18 02:08 PM
Thought I would share some pictures of a team build.
This is my CNC program for the heads.
All the billet stuff made in house at Harshman's automotive.
Jermey Hasman did all the billet CNC stuff
Randy Harshman has done the block in his CNC block machine.
Hope to have some Dyno time on it early next week.

Is that an example of the CNC program that also has a cuttered finish added, or the prototype head that you based your CNC program on?
Do you farm out your seat & guide work?

That intake is unreal...…...

Re: Vic 340 build - 11/22/18 04:48 PM
Very cool.
A couple questions....
What size are the intake valves ?
The block is 48 degree...yes ?
Were there any big problems besides push rod clearance ?
Are the rockers common shaft ?
I am guessing that they need to be offset as well as the lifters ?
Finally , do you use Chev bolt pattern on the damper ?
I did with my deal just to open up options for belt driven accessories , but not having the capacity to fab the shiny bits sort of forced my hand.
Sorry.....one more.
Who's cam drive ?
That is really a work of art.

From my master to the 4 sets we got they changed the castings
So I had to hand blend a bunch of stuff in.
We will re-do ports and digitize again🤦♂️
I only have stones for valve jobs so yes Randy cuts most of my square seat stuff
All with cutters I pick/design.

2.200" intake
Yes 48°
We started with pro port heads so we did pushrod CNC clearance program.
We cut the common shaft off and had Jesel shafts made (thanks to the Buckner's)
Letting us piggy back off the custom rockers they had made.
We will be changing system up as we can only get 1.8 rockers as of right now.
Cam drive is Jesel.
Yes I always order Chevy front. Be crazy to get Mopar front.
Lifter on intake has to be offset.
We got offset exhaust but really did not need them.
This is a thrash to get on the dyno before PRI.

Re: Vic 340 build - 11/24/18 05:27 PM
are those rough ports really ok ? would that keep the fuel from dropping out of suspension because of turbulence ? remember, i'm the dummy here.

Re: Vic 340 build - 11/24/18 05:31 PM
Surface Finnish is so far down on the list of what matters in a cylinder head.
I think maybe you could change what port is doing by a small margin with surface finish.
But most of the time a rough finish will make more power than smooth.

thank you for your response.
with a slight "tootsie roll" cleanup, would anything be gained, other than a "good look" to the port ? if i were doing this, it would make me feel good just going over the finish with a 60 or 80 grit roll.
What are the bronze looking spots in the intake and exhaust ports.

Do you have the same thoughts on surface finish as Larry Meaux and Chad Speier now?

Re: Vic 340 build - 11/24/18 07:45 PM
Other than my CNC stuff I have let carbide finish for years. ( I am no good with sand rolls and no patients for it)
I know Lary has done a good bit of back to back testing and his results show more power with rough finish.
But again finish is way down on the list of important "stuff"
I sand rolled the chambers because I can do them quick and it looks nice. 😂
Should have just left them in carbide.

Re: Vic 340 build - 11/25/18 06:29 PM
No we did a program for that and Jesel rocker bar attachment.
We hope to be getting RAW castings with HIP process done
Then my buddy can cube them and we will change the stuff we don't like about the heads.
Edelbrock has been un-receptive to changes we would like to have made.

If someone would step up And try it

I agree with Shiloh, Edelbrock owes you on this one. Maybe, just maybe, they can pull some strings on getting blocks done.
That head and a good block, BINGO!
Maybe an intake manifold?
That would help too.

Posted By: W5DART66
Re: Vic 340 build - 12/02/18 04:43 AM
Really maintenance would not be bad on this at all.
Shift at 8500 I am not sure how many passes it would go before it might need springs.
Has 65 pulls on the dyno between 8500 and 9000 rpm.
Springs still check fine.
Rocker ratio only 1.8 intake exhaust 1.75
60mm cam and Jesel keyway lifters are solid parts and should give good service life.

There were a few guys I missed,I'll be back at some point.
I went by and checked out your handy work on a few occasions over the three days of the show. I will be telling a good friend about what you're achieving, he's got a few Victor headed engines almost finished. Re: Vic 340 build - 12/09/18 06:59 PM
Lenny Knott the CNC machine owner that is cutting the heads has 8 sets on order RAW castings.
This will help us make the changes we want to with out having to fix/re-do what was machined.
The heads will have HIP process done on them also.
When they are ready to go I am sure we will do a group buy or something to get them out into the market.

I see your header tubes are in firing order sequence. People are always arguing if it is worth it. I've always believed it helps. Have you noticed much power differences with header primaries that aren't in firing order?
