I picked up a few tenths.Try running smaller nozzle jets than Rons suggests.I had a 511 cud,714 lift cam 272/278 @.050,with a o 1/2 pump and went down from 38 to 36 and picked up 2 more tenths and didn't milk my oil.You could smell the ally in the oil but it was cleaner.I ran 1120 to 1140 egt at the end of the 1/8th.3080lb car 5.60 123mph.120 60 ft.Don't idle unless you are warming it up then pull the lean out to raise the idle to warm up and keep you from washing out your cylinders.The Wal-Mart brand of wd40 has less water and I use to spray it down the toilet to help dissipate moisture!AEvac is a must
To add to this warm the motor to 210 or so to heat soak the engine, oil, and trans . these setups lose heat so easily you will have no problem being at 180 to 190 for the run. Alky motors like heat. Lean it out any time you can to and from the line, warmup. The oil will stay clear and fresh if you do. Be sure you use oil known to be alky compatible. For the end of the day, Always shut fuel off, wait for the lines to drain into the cylinders for a minute or so, crack the throttle and crank with ignition on. Wait a minute and Do this till it won't fire any cylinders. Then you know you have done what you can to clear fuel and water out of the cylinders. Use Klotz top end lube or similar. 1 qt to a 55 gal drum of alky. Fogging the motor with marine fogging oil isn't a bad idea either, especially if you look at the cylinder bores at the end of a season!
